Photo Competion in Haiti Carnival

Hello, My name is Ludwig Borgella, I am a photographer based out of NY. I moved here 20 years ago when I was just 14 years old. As a Haitian immigrant, I have constantly dealt with the bad news coming out of Haiti regarding politics and the overstated label “poorest country of the western hemisphere”. Disregarding all the badmouthing, I have been traveling to Haiti since 2003. At that point, I have rediscovered that Haiti in another light. Haiti is that true “diamond in a rough”. Haiti is a hub for exotic beaches, landmarks, greenery…I see Haiti as the best-kept secret tourist location. On the other hand, it has a very hopeful youth and a bright future ahead.
Just as my whole view of Haiti has changed after a few visits and explorations, I feel like I can change Haitians living abroad and foreigners' mindset about Haiti through the promotion of images of the best locations and events that I have taken while visiting the country. I recently visited one of the biggest caves (Marie Jeanne) in the Caribbean located in Port-à-Piment, Haiti. I have gotten positive feedbacks from the pictures I had taken there from lots of people that have not yet visited Haiti. And I would like to continue that trend, and hence, attract more attention and increase interest toward tourism in Haiti. That can only help in many areas of Haitian economy which is in dire need.
Carnival is right around the corner in Haiti (February 15-17). Although I am not personally a big fan of the festivities, I would like to participate because the Haitian Tourism Department is organizing a photo competition. By attending, I will be able to take pictures of the many events that are lined up and also the people while in exhilarating joy. Not only these pictures will be published by the tourism office, there is also a prize for the best pictures taken. I look forward for your help to realize this trip which can only allow me to advance the cause of uplifting and advertising Haiti’s beauty.
