After overcoming Hodgkins Lymphoma in his early 20's, and the radiation that went along with it, our dad was diagnosed with non-small cell adenocarcinoma (lung cancer) at the end of last year. He underwent chemotherapy, and it seemed to be helping! A few weeks ago, he was admitted to hospital to undergo a Thoracentesis procedure (aka removing excess fluid in between the space of the lungs, and the chest wall). After that procedure had complications, he experienced a hemothorax (blood filling the lung) and was rushed into emergency surgery. Because he has went through so much trauma, and the recent chemotherapy treatments, his body is struggling to return to normal and has possibly compromised some other organs. We know he is the strongest man we know, and that God still has big plans for him. We are now at Duke Hospital working with some of the best doctors in the US and we hope to have answers, and a plan of action soon!
We have had HUNDREDS of people ask what they can do to help, where they can send money, or where they can bring food, etc. and we, as a family, have finally come to the best conclusion.
Truth be told, our mom and dad have NO idea that we are doing this, and if they did they would probably kill all 6 of us. However, we know that with lengthy stays in the Critical Care Unit, mom not being able to go to the last few weeks of work, and now Daddy being at Duke Hospital which is one of the best hospitals in the world, there comes bills. We're very aware that insurance will cover a lot, but it won't scratch the surface of what they will need. The LAST thing we want our parents worrying about is money. Our dad's focus should be on fighting and healing, and our mom's focus should be on being his biggest fan beside him the entire way. Both are doing their jobs EXTREMELY well.
With your donation, we will be able to cut a large chunk out of their anxiety. This is not a short journey. We expect my dad to be fighting and healing for awhile, and these donations will help with a lot of things such as: hospital bills, everyday bills, equipment he'll need once he's home, transportation, etc. We had to put a "goal" number, but honestly, whatever we raise will help!
