Help Market My Books | KaitlynDeann

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn. I have been writing stories since I was 11 years old. When I was 17 I finished my very first novel titled "The Witches' Sleep" . After a few months of querying agents and publishers, I decided to look into self-publishing. CreateSpace.com is the route I went. It was great, but my reach was/is slim because I don't have a marketing team or a publisher's name stamped to my book.

(At a local market where I set up my own booth several years ago!)

Despite my small reach, I recieved a Gold Medal Award and 5-star review from Readers' Favorite in 2013. Also, I recieved outstanding reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Writer's Digest (check out the reviews at the bottom of this post).

(From my highschool SENIOR pictures a couple of years ago.)

Two years later, when I was 19, I finished my second novel, the sequel to the first book, which is titled "World of the Beasts" .  I also published this book through CreateSpace.com. This book gathered more attention than the first! But not by much... Like my first book, "World of the Beasts"  has recieved outstanding reviews. It is currently in the running of Readers' Favorite 2016 Awards! *Fingers crossed!* (They already reviewed the book though; see bottom of post for the review!)

Now I am 21 years old, and I'm working on the third book in The Witches' Sleep Trilogy. It is titled "The Warlock's Awakening."  I would love to have this book out to my lovely readers by the end of 2017. It's difficult, though...

You see, I took the whole year of 2015 off from writing so I could go to nursing school. (I need funds to help me successfully market my novels, and nursing is a good path to take.) Thankfully, now I'm a nurse on a PCCU floor at a local hospital! Three to four "12" (because any nurse will tell you it's more like 13 or 14) hour shifts a week can be really rough on a person's body and mind. Especially when you are on your toes all day because your 6 patients are near critcal.

(Graduation night feat. my beautiful mom, Dec 2015)

I love nursing, but writing is my one true love. I will always love writing more than any other career I choose. It is a part of me, who I am, weaved into my DNA.

Over the years I've been looking into getting tradionally published, but I'm rejected despite outstanding awards and reviews. Sure, being rejected discourages me, but I know I'll never stop pursuing my dream! I hope my books reach a wide audience one day! (Maybe soon? That would be awesome!)

Also, if there are any marketers reading this or anyone with marketing experience, please feel free to share with me stategies that have worked well for you or others! I want to be a successful author. I know I have to put in the work, and believe me I am willing! Please join me in my journey to become that successful author 11-year-old Kaitlyn dreamed about becoming! <3 :D

A FEW REVIEWS:
"Seventeen-year-old debut author Deann has written a political, moral and racial commentary on U.S. society in the guise of a fantasy novel... Told in the present tense, with short, sharp uncluttered prose and dialogue, the novel contains elements of great maturity... A remarkable, entertaining read and a useful political-awareness treatise for thinking teens."
~ Kirkus Reviews,
reviewing THE WITCHES' SLEEP

"The Witches’ Sleep is an exceptionally well-paced story, a pleasure that I rarely experience as an avid reader. I was truly immersed in my reading and connected with the story and its characters so well as if I was experiencing it for real. Ella, or Sunlight, is ... a very well-created character, and very vibrant with acceptable weakness and admired strength. Kaitlyn Deann is my new favorite author and she did extremely well with the first installment of this trilogy. I can’t wait for the next book from this remarkable author."

"I have really never heard this mythology about the Witches’ Sleep before and everyone I told about it just loved the concept. It was super intriguing... Ella/Sunny and Daedrian/Kindness’ love is that eternal, timeless, fated love story that teens eat up with a fork and spoon. It was exciting and [the main character] was a great role model... One of my favorites that I read for sure."
~ Judge, Writer's Digest,
reviewing THE WITCHES' SLEEP

“This is a complicated science fiction world that takes us deep into the author's vivid and bright imagination. Each planet that the characters visit is unique and has its own type of inhabitants. There are many different species within this story. There are unique names and spellings, new rules, beautiful new landscapes, climates and temperatures. Everything is fresh and original and none of the descriptions seemed canned or repeated. Just the amount of work that went into building these worlds should impress any science fiction reader. Readers will also appreciate the unique array of characters. I loved the interesting name choices. Sea-Anna grows into a wise and strong character that readers will relate to. Tuck stresses a great deal about his separation from Sea-Anna and their love is adequately described without seeming too overpowering.”

“Masterful. Brilliant. Genius. Beautiful. Breathtaking.... I can't praise this book highly enough. Not only was it incredible in delivery, but it had quite possibly one of the best endings I've read in a book. Hat's off to the author.”

“No book is perfect... but the overall storyline, character development, world building, plot twists... I was amazed by how well put together it was. [Kaitlyn Deann] took her time with releasing this, getting everything just the way she wanted it, and I cannot argue with what a great book has resulted. Simply marvelous.”
