Hello and welcome!
The Independent News Magazine is a student-run news organization situated at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.
As news aggregators, we strive to use multiple mediums to widely spread our content. Our staff is comprised of only 30 members, which is considered small for a college news organization. We operate out of six departments and produce content comparable to that of a larger university's news organization.
The Independent is always looking for new ways to expand our reach. In order to do so, we attend and present at the Associated Collegiate Press journalism conferences. The more staff we can send, the better. Right now, in order to send two more editors it would be $1,340 which is $670 per person. If this is not raised by March of 2015, we can only go forward with four original editors and not the additional two.
We currently only have the funds to send four editors. This sort of learning opportunity would be incredible for any able to go, so we wish to send as many people as possible, preferably four more editors or staff.
This year the conference is in Los Angeles,CA and in previous years our publication placed in the top ten of our category and has always improved in leaps and bounds afterward. We hope to place in the top five if not the top three this year.
We are a one of a kind publication with large aspirations for the future, so please help us out and make a donation to send The Independent to L.A.! Any amount is appreciated and we thank you immensely!
