I am a teacher on Chicago's Southside going on a High School London Trip this April with about 40 juniors and seniors from our school. This is such an amazing opportunity as some of our students have never even been outside of the city of Chicago!
The Kid: One of my old students, let's call him Bob, is a junior now. He is AMAZING. He works VERY hard to compete with his honors counterparts in a rigorous class setting with a grueling work day. He shows grit and a fierce tenacity to get himself to a great college. He is quiet, and kind, and a true gentleman at heart.
The Problem: A lot of our parents work several jobs. An opportunity like our trip to England is a HUGE investment for them. Without revealing his personal information, Bob's parents were struggling to make payments because of some family issues. As of last week, his parents have decided to pull him from the program because they cannot afford it.
I am Sad: What I'm so sad about is that Bob did not know about any of this. His parents didn't want their son, who is working very hard to get into a good college, to be worrying about money problems and so struggled silently to maket he payments. Now, mom is pulling him out of the program next week and must tell him the news. This will all come as a shock to Bob since he had no idea his parents were struggling in the first place.
For over a year, he has been involved in our fundraising, volunteers for EVERYTHING, and is at EVERY meeting with an unstoppable positivity in preparation for this trip.
Please help Bob go to London!
