Imagine a capable, intelligent individual. They have tremendous potential, yet for any number of reasons, they have stumbled onto hard times. To obtain employment would be of immense gain to them but they just don’t have the means to “look the part” and as a result they lack in the confidence to make it to the next step: gainful employment, a chance to recreate themselves and present themselves to the world on the outside as beautifully as they feel on the inside.
This is the purpose behind JouJou Be-YOU-tiful Day.
Launched in the summer of 2014, we gathered some of Toronto’s top talent in the beauty and photography industry for a full makeover day at the Redwood Women's Shelter, in Toronto. This day included haircutting/styling, nail design, make-up application, a professional photo shoot, and a gift bag full of beauty products for our participants.
Our second annual Be-YOU-tiful Day in March 2015 took place at the Covenant House, an urban full-service youth shelter located downtown Toronto.
JouJou Hair Studio relies heavily on the kindness of our community partners to make this day happen. While the beauty services we provide are complimentary and volunteer based, there are still many expenses to cover to reach our goal successfully. These include a professional paid photographer, editing and printing picture costs, supplies/products and much more for the production of this event.
Because of these costs, it is essential that individual members of the community give generously to support this cause that provides our participants a chance to achieve and maintain inner confidence and empowerment through positive self-image.
Our aim is that the external transformation and experience we provide will boost the self-esteem of the participants to collectively motivate them to move forward through and past their circumstances, and to inspire further transformation in their lives.
