On December 10th 2014 our good friend, Elly, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. She is just 35 years old.
MND is a terminal, degenerative condition that affects the motor neurones, attacking the muscles until they waste away. It's a horrendous disease which leaves sufferers trapped in their own body, unable to move, speak and eventually breathe.
Sadly, ill health has plagued Elly for the preceding few years. After suffering from pancreatitis and having her gall bladder removed in October she was told that she'd feel like a new woman. Elly knew there was something wrong though and made an appointment with a neurologist, receiving the devastating diagnosis.
Elly is married to Rory and they have a beautiful 8 year old daughter, Poppy. Whilst they are protecting Poppy as much as possible it is becoming increasingly difficult as Elly is losing her ability to walk and her speech is deteriorating. The MND specialist is advising her to take it week by week, do everything she wants to do but not to plan too far ahead.
Prior to her diagnosis Elly lived a full life, working as a teacher for a local academy, running the family home and being a fab mum to Poppy. The diagnosis has devastated the family.
As her friends we spoke to Elly about setting up this fundraising account, not only to raise awareness of this tragic condition but also to raise some money so Elly can make some fabulous memories for her, Poppy and Rory.
This month sees the final salary from Elly's employer, having money worries on top of everything is just too much. Please help us to create some fabulous memories for Elly, Rory and Poppy before the condition leaves her unable to do anything.
She has previously told Poppy they'd all go to London to see the sights. She'd also love to do a family photoshoot before she deteriorates and have lots of nice days out while she is able.
Please help us to help this lovely family. No donation is too small, every penny will help and every penny will make things just a little easier for Elly.
