Christina's Figure Skating Fund

If there was ever a little girl who was deserving of living out a dream, it is Christina Alexander. Until December 2013, she didn't have much going for her. A big heart, and a genuine love for others, her life was nothing more than her stuffed animals, some colored pencils, and cloud gazing from the backyard. She hadn't really traveled far from her hometown, and never out of the state, but all of that was about to change.
On December 15th, 2013, while visiting family in Las Vegas, she was treated to an opportunity to Ice Skate at an outdoor rink. For her and everyone that was witness, it was obvious that her first time ever on ice skates, should not be her last. So, on March 5th, 2014, she was officially enrolled into Basic Skating at The Aerodrome in Houston, TX. Within 6 months she would take 1st place in two competitions, and within a year of that night in Las Vegas, she would perform in two separate Ice Shows, and enter the Pre-preliminaries.
Her coach, with past ties to the Olympics, has taken a special interest in Christina. She has accomplished in 9 months what takes most skaters 2 to 4 years on average to achieve. Some people say that she is a "savant" on the Ice, "a natural", and they would know.
She is now a member of the USFS and has a real and promising future in the sport of Figure Skating, but it is in jeapordy of being lost. Figure Skating, as it turns out, is a very expensive sport, and her family has limited finances. Her father is a 10 year cardiac patient who was recently diagnosed with heart failure, and had to undergo what would be his 2nd open heart surgery.
It was through the suggestion of friends and family that the creation of this GoFundMe Account might offer the chance to help support Christina and provide her with the resources neccessary to help live out that dream. To help keep her in a sport that could open new doors for her, provide her with Scholarships, and even the realistic possibility of the Olympics. Of course those possibilities are years down the road, and so the focus is on the now.
For this upcoming year of 2015, and since she has advanced so quickly, the costs have also increased. They will double, and even triple starting January 1, 2015. Costs include: Ice Time, Coach Fees, Dance Class, Conditioning Class, Competition Fees & Travel, Wardrobe, Skate Maintenance, etc. The calculated amount budgeted for this fund campaign is what we anticipate will be needed to get through 2015.
To have been a witness to this last year is enough for anyone to believe that there is something magical happening here, or that the events leading to this were perhaps, orchestrated by a higher power. It is without any doubt that this was absolutely meant to be. She didn't choose the sport ... the sport chose her.
We hope you find this cause a worthy one, and will help us to do for Christina, what we ourselves are unable to do for her. Very few dreams ever become reality in this world. Hers is beautiful, let's help her to make it real.
