Raegan and Piper's father shot and killed their mother, Jessica. He then shot and killed himself. These 2 little girls have to uproot their lives and move 3 counties away to live with Jessica's mother. Pam has had to hire a lawyer to petition the court for custody of the girls. This process is just logistics considering she's the only logical choice and no one is contesting her plea for guardianship. The legal fees are $1500. The family met with the funeral director today to make arrangements for Jessica's memorial service. The cost for everything included in the funeral services comes to about $4200. Funeral services and legal fees combined equal approx. $5700. I am padding this total by $200 to cover the transaction fees that we will be charged for receiving donations through GoFundMe's payment portals, plus $100 to go towards the purchase of a piece of memorial jewelry for each Raegan and Piper to have in remembrance of their beloved mother. The family sincerely appreciates any amount that you feel led to give, no matter how small. To my Aunt Pam, Uncle Johnny, Barrett, Sissy and Jeannie, Raegan and Piper:
I've struggled all day to find the appropriate words that might offer the least bit of comfort, but I've come up empty. Words, conversation, and sentiment almost never escape me, however today has carried such a surreal tone that I'm not quite certain that the tragic news has made it all the way to my heart; to my core, yet.
"I'm sorry" seems so trivial, yet that's all I keep thinking. I'm sorry that any of this happened at all. I'm sorry that God, even though I'm faithful he had reason, did not intervene and spare these lives. I'm sorry that one person's instability has torn Jessie, our loved one, a loving mother, daughter, sister, friend, etc. from a world that she should have been allowed to live in peacefully. Taken from us; from a world that she should be facing a long and happy life ahead of her. Ripped away; away from a world that she should have been allowed to watch her daughters grow and prosper. From a world that she should be grieving the deaths of her parents one day, not the other way around.
If there is a blessing in any of this, it is surely that Jessie now stands in the presence of our God Almighty. Having been reunited with her older brother, Greg, her grandparents, and all those loved ones already rejoicing in the place prepared especially for us in Heaven.
All of the grief, pain, and sympathy I feel on my own family's behalf, I also feel for Roxy's children and loved ones. If we can find the slightest bit of comfort in this tragedy, let it be that Jessie and Roxy had a friendship that most people long for, searching their entire lives for, yet never lucky enough to experience. Jessie and Roxy were inseparable.
