Izel at 3 years old is facing her second battle with cancer.
Izel was first diagnosed with a Wilms tumour (kidney cancer) in late 2016 when she was 16 months old. She underwent surgery to remove the tumour and her right kidney (radical nephrectomy), followed by 3 months of chemotherapy. But this would not be the end of Izel’s story.
During a routine follow-up this year, oncologists identified a mass in Izel’s abdomen. An initial biopsy found that the mass was benign, however a follow-up exam identified a second mass that was growing. Another biopsy confirmed our family's worst fears; the cancer had returned. April 2018, Izel was diagnosed with stage 3 Wilms, with an inoperable tumour and a cancerous liquid in her abdomen. She has begun an intensive treatment program of in-patient and out-patient chemotherapy combined with full-abdominal radiation.
Our entire family thanks and recognizes everyone for your incredible support. We have been overwhelmed by the love and generosity that has been shown to us throughout this journey.
Izel Dominique is 3. She loves dancing - She’s funny and very social - She loves her dog - She’s bright - She speaks 3 languages - She knows that she has cancer and she doesn’t like the treatment - She wishes she could just go to l'école et jouer avec ses amis, and we are confident that she will be able to do that again one day.
Your donations go straight into an account in Izel's without intermediaries. Your generous donations are helping us support Izel's medical costs for drugs and treatments not covered. They support us as Cuauhtemoc is no longer working and caring full-time for Izel. Rachelle is now taking an extended leave of absence from work due to the strain of spending extended periods of time in hospital. The funds are supporting us through this time when neither are gaining much income, they help us pay for various things such as travel costs and keep the lights on and food on the table.
