Hi everyone as a lot of you are aware by now our little Isla who is 2yrs old has been poorly for some time now - towards the end of last year Isla was found to be severely anemic and was prescribed Iron to help this - However before her review in March Isla started to get very poorly and she was admitted to chesterfield hospital where is was found that her hemoglobin levels were very low (32!) and had to undergo a blood transfusion - we were then sent home. A couple of weeks later Isla started to deteriorate again so we took her back to hospital where it was found Isla had an enlarged liver and her HG Levels were dropping again. We were the referred to Sheffield children’s hospital.
I will get straight to the point now- we have spent the last 4 weeks in hospital over 3 of these in Sheffield children’s hospital Isla was found to have an enlarged spleen, liver and fluid around her heart - has undergone numerous ultrasounds 2 MRIs 3 bone marrow biopsy’s lumber punch cameras skin biopsy’s a further 2 more blood transfusions and numerous blood tests and is currently being fed through a tube as she has no appetite.
Yesterday we finally got a diagnosis which effects around 50 people in the UK - Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis and Isla has to start chemotherapy and steroids next week. We also bought Isla home yesterday as I’m trained on her feeds and we are back at the hospital next week for her to start chemotherapy and have 6 weekly visits.
After 6 weeks Isla will have to have bone marrow and all biopsy’s done again to see if it has gone, which fingers crossed it will have - she has been a little fighter through this and still has smiles for us everyday x This Page is set up to help me and Dave as a family I’m not returning to work until Isla is completely better and Dave is going in when he can but he may have to stay at home more once Isla starts her chemotherapy. We would also like to donate to the hospital - the care we have received from the doctors and nurses has been absolutely fantastic the hospital has been our home and they became our family for the last 4 weeks xx
