Lexus IS350 Aftermarket Project

Donation protected
The  Third Generation Lexus IS 250 and 350 F Sport has been the first Asian import to give The Europeans a run for their money in the sport sedan class. The 306 HP 2GR-FSE has been praised by Road and Tracks Senior Editor Jason Cammisa as the "best V6 around". The problem, however, is that there is little to no legitimate aftermarket support for this car.

The goal of this campaign is to start to change that. With your help, I will commit to learning everything there is to know about this car in order to make it a viable aftermarket tuner. After I'm done with project, I will be giving the car away to someone I have no direct relation with. This project is so I can work on the car, not keep it!

Just so it's out there, my name is Tim Welsh. I don't use Facebook, so my awesome girlfriend, Emma, has let me use her account to link and promote this campaign.

General knowledge and how-tos are what make the aftermarket idustry move these days. While regular tech shops will simply turn down any work that is at all custom and custom shops begin to chage in excess of $150 an hour, more and more hobbyists turn to forums and other community websites to make their cars do what they want.  I personally know a career IT who did a 2JZ swap using forum pictures and advice alone.

My first car was an old, beat up Buick Century that I outfitted with DVD players and other rediculous electronics that had no buisniess being on a mid nineties sedan, so much so I eventually caught it on fire (note: putting a 30 amp fuse to replace the ever-popping 10 amp is NEVER a solution).

Since then, I have gotten my tech degree, been ASE certified, hold my state emissions license, and somehow, I still love every aspect of the industry.

I'm not going to lie, buying a new Lexus would be the coolest thing thats happened for a pay-by-the-hour worker such as myself. With your money, I pledge to not only learn the car inside and out, I will make it an extension of myself, leaving every tidbit of information behind on any related website and social media page. Whenever I'm satisfied I have done everything I feel is appropriate for the car, I will then Donate it. I have not decided where, but will take input from the community. This isn't about buying me a cool car, it's about my opportunity to work on one!

The IS350 is the first chance at setting Lexus on par with BMW and Mercedes. Healthy competition is what makes any industry grow, but if aftermarket support isn't there for this wonderful machine, it can easily be forgotten by the next generation, and I for one am a fan of unforgotten classics.

$50,000 can legitmately buy the car, but I am setting the campagin goal at $75,000 in hopes of buying additional dyno time and any other fabrication compononets of the car I may see fit. Forced Induction? ECU Mapping? 600+ HP? I don't feel comfortable saying without getting my hands dirty first, but I promise to keep the community updated every step along the way!
