Kevin Rhodes Recovery & Relief Fund

Kevin became a victim of violent crime on November 8, 2014 in Pacifica, California; on Linda Mar beach. The same beach where his family owns a home that he grew up in since he was only a year old; where he started surfing at the age of 6; where he has taught nearly 20,000 people to surf over the past 20 years. His attacker hit Kevin from behind knocking him unconscious, face down on the sand and rocks, where he proceeded to kick and stomp his head and neck into the rocks. Miraculously Kevin's only major injuries were two breaks to his jaw.

Kevin underwent his first surgery on November 26, 2014 that repaired the two fractures in his jaw with titanium plates and screws and his jaws are wired shut and will be for 3-6 weeks. We will not know until after his jaws are healed if he will need further maxillofacial surgery to repair the damage that was done to his teeth during the attack or if this initial surgery set everything back into alignment. Best case scenario is Kevin has already been out of work and out of the water for 5 weeks and will be for at least 4-6 weeks which has caused an extreme financial hardship on our family.

Being that Kevin is self-employed he has no disability benefits to help get us through this difficult time. On top of what we all have as normal living expenses, we are facing unknown medical and legal expenses.

Asking for help is not something I have ever been very good at, so I am thanking all of you in advance for helping my family.

We realize the holidays are a tough financial time for most families. If each of my friends that saw this; that are in my friends list on Facebook, and those friends forwarded this link to their friends, and each person gave only $5; my family would reach a donation amount that would exceed so far beyond the goal I have set, which I honestly know in my heart is going to be nowhere near enough to cover what lays ahead of us.
