Ice Cream Dream

Creating Experiences

We love that our daughter has no problem with the appearance of the sketchy ice cream truck that comes through our neighborhood. She simply hears the sound of the music and runs toward the truck (pictured below).

However, in our city, anyone with a driver's license and a business license can get in any vehicle and distribute pre-packaged ice cream novelties. That made us concerned. We wanted something more for her; something wholesome, reliable and, well, safe.

That's when my wife and I decided we want to help create amazing experiences and memories for our community. After deliberating and discussing, we landed on an idea that would do just that.

Deciding and Doing

We decided that we would build an ice cream truck. We would provide the provide safe, reliable, friendly, and memorable experiences we desired for our daughter. It is an awesome way to convey our desire to make amazing experiences and create lasting, positive memories. We knew our truck would be included at memory-making events all over our region. Last May, our decision became reality.

We bought a 1959 Chevy Step Van. In its condition, we knew we were going to need help. We prayed for a mechanic and metal worker and we found both at the same time—in the same garage! This past July, we began our renovations.

We budgeted the money to complete the renovations and planned to outfit the rest of the truck (freezers, ice cream product, etc) with our income.

We were actually doing this!

What vs. How

Our original plan was to budget and bootstrap our way to the success. However, on August 31, 2014, things changed. Both my wife and I lost our jobs in the restaurant where we worked.

Our what hasn't changed. But our how is distinctly different.

What is cool is that, despite the job loss, we never thought this project was over. We believe that this will be accomplished not only for but through our community of friends and family.

You may not be a mechanic or metalworker, but your value is no less important!

We are asking for your help as a way to share our dream. The amount doesn't matter. Working together with you on this project does. We appreciate the opportunity to share this dream with you.

Thanks in advance for your support.
