Help for Uncle Mick

Dear Family & Friends,
The Taylor Family (Mike, Estela, Michaelangelo and Giovanni) is reaching out to you for help to support our Uncle Mick who is in need of some immediate medical procedures. In the summer of 2013, Uncle Mick was diagnosed with tongue and throat cancer. After surgery to remove the cancerous lymph nodes, he underwent a series of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Another round of radiation and chemotherapy treatments are necessary to prevent the cancer from returning, but the doctors insist that all of his teeth be removed before he can undergo the treatment. Uncle Mick is already unable to chew any food, and he will remain on a liquid diet for the rest of his life. Uncle Mick has put off this follow-up treatment because he cannot afford to have his teeth removed. The doctors are now concerned that too much time is passing between treatments, and they are urging Uncle Mick to get his teeth removed as soon as possible. It will cost approximately $3,000 to have his teeth removed, and Uncle Mick simply does not have the money.
The youngest of the three sons, Uncle Mick is a wonderful man who is important to our family. He is the main caretaker of his 93-year-old mother in a remote area of Washington State. He is his mother’s main source of transportation, her administrator of health, does all of their shopping, and he maintains their home by doing all of the repairs – as well as cutting and splitting firewood to prepare for the Washington weather. They live a very modest life and manage to get by on a very low income.
We are asking for your help.
To our families: In lieu of any Christmas gifts this year, we humbly request that you donate what you would have spent on gifts to a fund that we have set up to help pay for Uncle Mick’s urgent medical needs. It was the boys’ decision to choose to be a part of a gift for Uncle Mick, rather than to receive a gift for themselves. It is our hope that you will honor their choice, as we can’t think of a more heartfelt gesture and important life giving lesson for them to experience.
To our friends: Please help us help our Uncle Mick by contributing any size donation that you can spare. No amount is too small, and every donation will help us reach our goal faster so that Uncle Mick can receive the treatments he so desperately needs.
We are spending Christmas with Uncle Mick and Grandma in Washington this year, and we hope to present them with a gift that will allow Uncle Mick to prepare for the treatment he needs to prolong his life - a gift that can only be made possible with your support.
