Callie's Knee Replacement

Donation protected

My name is Megen Osborn.  This request is to help me and my husband Jason afford a much needed knee surgery for our dog (and only child!) Callie.  Her right knee is in pretty bad shape due to no fault but bad genes.  At some point in time she will need her left knee replaced, but I could'nt bring myself to ask for the whole $6,000.00 or so that it will cost total for both knees.

Where'd she get her bad gene's you ask?  What kind of dog is she?  Your guess is as good as ours.  Husky, lab, German shepherd, Austrailian shepherd, chow, all of the above?  My sister in law found Callie when she was 7 weeks old.  Abandoned in a snow bank in the middle of Binford Boulevard.  For those of you not in Indianapolis, Binford is a very busy major road.  Here she was just a teeny, tiny, black fluffball.  All alone and just a baby.  She was too young to even be away from her mother yet.

My sister in law gave her to me as a belated wedding present.  Of course this was after I begged and pleaded with my husband because I just knew I absolutely had to have this dog.  So here I have this beautiful dog, which I think is a Keeshond.  She's all black and just as fluffy as could be with huge brown eyes.  I take her to the vet's office to check to see if she has a microchip.  She doesn't.  She is actually all mine!

Callie is my baby.  We do not have any kids or other animals.  I have raised Callie since she was 7 weeks old.  She will be 7 in February.  She is now about 55 pounds (a bit shy of the 80 pound dog we thought she'd be) but she doesn't know it.  She still acts like a puppy and is my lap dog, my shadow, and sticks to me like velcro.  I would'nt change that for anything.

I still have no idea what kind of dog's she is mixed with, but I do know that in July 2014 she started limping after coming back from getting her deep teeth cleaning for the year.  I figured it was just an after effect of the anesthesia.  As she's gotten older, it seems like it takes her a day longer to recover.  I understand, we're all getting older.

The limp went away and she went right back to her old self, aka the lap puppy that never grew up and didnt realize how big she was.  Every now and then she would limp, but I just figured it was because she had played too hard.  She doesn't know that she can't catch the bunnies she chases in our yard but she tries every time.

In October the limp came back and was more frequent.  We took her to the vet and said without x-rays her best guess is a knee or hip problem.  So we waited till the next payday and took her back for the x-rays.  Her ACL in her right knee is all but gone.

We are devestated.  We are still paying off my husband's knee surgery from 2013.  Show's what kind of luck we have.  First it's my husband and now my dog.  I hear a country song forming in this somewhere.  Callie is on pain med's until we can get her in for surgery.  I feel horrible because I haven't been able to do this right away and I dont want her to be in pain.

I know this was long.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and thank you for anything you can help with.
