CancerCon 2015 in Denver, CO for Young Adult Cancer Survivors

December 20, 2013 I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 23. I felt very alone and very lost. How could this really be happening? I was entering my last semester of graduate school and was about to join the real world when cancer struck. 2014 was a very difficult year. I found out I carried the BRCA2 gene mutation which reinforced my decision to undergo a bilateral mastectomy with DiEP flap reconstruction. From here I did 4 rounds of harsh chemotherapy and have had 8 surgeries in total. Even though cancer sucks I have grown so much as a person. I learned what it really meant to be strong and brave and how tough of a person I am. I have also met so many incredible people on my journey. All the love and support I have been showered with this past year has been the encouragement I needed in order to fight. Now that treatment is over I am looking forward to enjoying a trip to Colorado and meet other people like me at CancerCon.
