Help local business owners take a stand

We need to cover the fines for the 9 arrestees including local business owners and residents who were arrested blockading the gate at Crestwood on 11/19/14 to protest the expansion of gas storage on Seneca Lake. We feel this gas expansion will negatively effect the local economy and environment. We are Asa Redmond (Regional Access), Anna Redmond (Regional Access), Stefan Senders (Wide Awake Bakery), Peggy Aker (Macro Mamas), Jessica Thorpe (Glen Mountain Market), Julia Uticone (Swamp Road Baskets), Will Ouweleen (Eagle Crest Winery), John Dennis, and Chuck Geisler. Any extra funds raised will go directly to cover the fines for future arrestees at wearesenecalake.com Thank you for your help and support!

Statement from Asa:
As you are reading this I am now blockading the gates of Crestwood Midstream along with 20 other local business owners, family, and residents because we feel the gas storage expansion project along the west side of Seneca Lake is a direct threat to our local economy, businesses, and environment.
Myself and my sister Anna are owners of Regional Access, a local, organic, and natural food distributor/ food hub. This family business was started by our father Gary Redmond, with a mission of promoting more sustainable and equitable local food systems. I know from first hand experience how important the local food and wine economies are to this area. That is why I am here with my family and friends to stand up against the proposed expansion of gas storage and industrialization of this beautiful area we all call home for our families and businesses.
I grew up 10 miles away from Crestwood and have spent a lot of time enjoying Seneca and Cayuga Lakes, as I do now with my wife and 3 children swimming at Lodi Point and Taughannock. The proposed expansion of methane and propane gas storage here is just the beginning of what Crestwood themselves tell their investors will become the largest gas storage hub in the Northeast. Since the 1970's, there have been 10 catastrophic-level accidents in salt caverns like these. One of the caverns they want to expand into was closed by US Salt after the roof collapsed and it was deemed too unstable for use.
This is a situation where our government is not protecting our rights as citizens to clean air and water, and is instead rubber-stamping a project for a big oil corporation while ignoring the health and safety risks it will create for the public. My wife and I have traveled to Albany twice with our 3 children, helped enact a ban on Fracking in our town of Enfield, written letters, signed petitions, and called our elected officials. With no further recourse it has come to this type of action for our voices to be heard against the unprecedented build-out of Fracking infrastructure that is currently taking place and threatening our beautiful Finger Lakes.
We do not take this action lightly, but with love for our home and shared responsibility to this place.
We are Seneca Lake

"We are young mothers and great-grandmothers and business leaders. We are your neighbors, the makers of your favorite wine, and the drummers in your favorite roots-rock band. We are fighting for water. We are fighting for life itself. We will not give up. Not in jail. Not in the rain. Not in the snow. You can’t freeze us out, starve us out, or arrest us out.

Because we are…Seneca Lake."
