The Herald 'Have a Heart' Campaign

Donation protected
The Herald has launched a new ‘Have a Heart’ campaign – teaming up with Heartstart Farnham Lions and Farnham Sports Council to help make Farnham the safest town in which to suffer a cardiac arrest in the South East.

Over the coming weeks and months, the Herald will support the Lions in raising funds and awareness for life-saving equipment and training for the public – as well as supporting Farnham Sports Council’s bid to install a potentially life-saving public-access defibrillator at Farnham Park.

Thanks to the efforts of the Lions, as well as Farnham Town Council and many other individuals and businesses across the area, much of Farnham is now just a stone’s throw from a potentially life-saving public-access defibrillator.

However, despite Farnham Park being used by hundreds of young sports men and women every weekend, as well as countless dog walkers and families during the week – not to mention the thousands of visitors at the annual Round Table fireworks display and fun fair – the park remains a glaring omission in the town’s network of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

The Herald, with the help of Heartstart and the sports council, hopes to right this wrong - and so set up this crowdfunding page to raise the estimated £1,500 needed to fund a defibrillator at Farnham Park.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of a long-standing family-run business in Wrecclesham, scrap metal merchant T Baker (June) Ltd, the Herald hit its initial target within hours of launching its fund-raising campaign. The campaign doesn't end there, however, and the race is now on the raise the funds needed for a heated cabinet to house the life-saving device, as well as to cover its ongoing maintenance (roughly £150 per year – potential sponsors please email [email redacted]) and for more public-access defibrillators elsewhere in Farnham and surrounding area.

All donations will be gratefully received, and updates posted both here and in the paper in coming weeks and months.

The Herald is also backing Heartstart’s efforts to create a defibrillator heart register – and promoting the group’s free life-saving skills classes. If you would like to contribute in any way to the Herald's campaign - perhaps you are an ace graphic designer with the skills to draw a map of Farnham's defibs - then please get in touch by emailing [email redacted] .
