Get Scott to Cambridge

Hello everyone,

I am going to keep this as simple as possible…

I am a final year student at UCL on track to finish with a 1st class honours degree. I have secured a place at The University of Cambridge (Homerton College) to study and research for my MPhil in Educational Research. My research will basically look at non-elites in elite environments. I myself, a non-elite student studied at some of the world’s top conservatoires (music college) and felt really out of place due to the inequalities which are evident within these elite environments. I ended up dropping out and cancelling my dreams of becoming a classical concert pianist. I promised that I would dedicate my life to making sure this does not happen to anybody else who is in the same socioeconomic position as myself.

For someone like me to be offered a place at Cambridge  is just quite extraordinary and never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought a boy like me could be accepted to such a place. My research will hopefully lead to a PhD which will look at how working class students  ‘fit in’ at elite universities and elite music colleges. The end goal… to publish groundbreaking research in hope of raising more awareness to this underdeveloped area. I then hope that the research lays the foundations for social change. The next generation need to be able to access the arts, they need to be able to not feel inferior to their private school counterparts and above all, they need people like me to do this research to show how evident these inequalities are within our society.

Money is stopping me from pursuing my research. Cambridge has given me a staggering and frightfully eye watering bill of £22,550 for the MPhil in educational research degree. I can access a £10,000 government loan (which will add to my existing university debt) so after this, I will still need £12,000 to be able to go and not only show people that it is possible for people like me to go to Cambridge but also, to have my research supervised by some of the worlds leading experts. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I will be studying at the same university which educated the likes of Stephen Hawking, Isaac Newton, Prince Charles of Wales, Charles Darwin, Eddie Redmayne, David Attenborough, Prince Edward, Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry, Alan Turing, Sir Martin Sorrell, Arianna Huffington, Emma Thompson, Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad along with 14 Prime Ministers and a record breaking 96 Nobel Prize Winners.

Please help me make a change… All that contribute to my funding will be personally thanked in my research. I shall whole heartedly dedicate my research to the people who have helped me fund my research and degree at Cambridge. Not only this, but you will be investing in something which will one day make a huge difference...My future aspirations are to heavily contribute to the field of social justice within education and to start taking action to help improve the way our education system works. It is about time the education system changed. This is a monumental step in the right direction for social change but money is stopping me from pursuing this. Please help me…

I picked Cambridge University for my research and degree but was also offered places to study at Oxford University and The London School of Economics.

 Thank you for reading!
