Shuggie's Lifesaver

Donation protected
Shuggie has a lot of spunk and a lot of life left in him, but, without surgery to fix the disk protrusion in his spine, he is in so much insufferable pain that it would be inhumane to keep him alive.

The patient: Shuggie is an adorable 7-lb Maltese who loves playing hide-and-go-seek, tug-of-war and anything involving his many stuffed animals. He also loves to be held and be rubbed behind his ears. He is one of those guys who gets noticed everywhere he goes – and he loves the attention.

The diagnosis: The MRI found that Shuggie has 3-4 bulging disks at his T11-12, T12-13 and T13-L1. The disks are protruding out, pinching his nerves and causing him pain – as well as making it very difficult for him to walk.

The prognosis: Left untreated, he will continue to have intolerable pain, his condition will worsen and his back legs will eventually be paralyzed.

The good news: It’s totally fixable. Shuggie can have a happy, pain-free life again! All he needs is a little surgery!

The bad news: I don’t have any more credit or cash to pay for the surgery.

Shuggie is my rock (or, as I call him, my pebble), and I would do anything for him. We pulled him through a nasty bout of aspiration pneumonia last spring, which required many tests, hospitalization, IVs, the works. Needless to say, it cost a pretty penny (over $3,000).

When Shuggie started having pain a few weeks ago, it just about killed me. It’s awful to see your little guy cry out uncontrollably. Eventually, I bit the bullet and paid the $2,500 for the MRI – or, should I say, Citicard paid for the MRI. I knew it would be just the beginning, and that it was unlikely that I’d be able to afford the next step. But I also knew how much Shuggie is loved, and how amazing my friends are – how much they just want to help this little ball of joy.

I appreciate everyone’s support not just of Shuggie, but of me over the past couple of months. You’ve all been amazing. I am sometimes in awe of how much love I have in my life – and what generous and genuine people I’ve surrounded myself with. I know you’ll do whatever you can both for Shuggie and for me. So thank you!!!

To help save Shuggie’s life: Donate as much as you want (even $1 helps!!!) and/or share this campaign on Facebook.

Thank you so much for your love and support!
