Save Roman's Eye (Kitten Corneal Ulcer)

Donation protected
Meet Roman!  Roman is an 8 month old Chocolate Persian!  In early May, Roman was tussling with his sister, Annabelle, and he was scratched on his eye.  For a couple of days, Roman's eye was completely swollen.

Momma thought he just had something caught in his eye, and several days went by with us irrigating his eye and letting him rest.  Finally two weeks later, we noticed Roman's eye had a line on it and bacteria was starting to grow.   We took Roman to the vet and he endured his first eye exam.

After a week and a half of erythromycin ointment, his eye is not improving.    So today, 6/10/14, we took roman back to his favorite Feline Doctor!  We have a new antibiotic ointment with a triple antibiotic action.  We will keep the eye clean and see how things go over the next week.
Here's Roman on June 10th at the vet's:

and a closeup of the unhappiness:

Our next step will be to take Roman to a Feline Opthamologist.  He will most likely require a debrisment of the corneal ulcer or worse case scenario... removal of his eye.
Poor Roman is in pain, and we have medication to help him stay calm.  We ask for love and prayers the most... and we welcome $5 or $10 towards Roman's treatment.    We know that the Opthamologist appointment will be around $300.00, and we have already charged $250.00 on our Care Credit Vet card.  Prior to this event, we paid for Roman and Annabelle's neutering/spaying/ vaccines and all their kitten exams.  We are basically wiped out!

Momma is busy studying for Medical School, and Daddy is already working really hard to provide.  We have inquired about pet insurnance, and this will be considered a "previously existing" diagnosis, so no pet insurance will kick in.  However, we will be getting it for him!

Please help us with the $250 so far, plus the next follow up appointment in a week.  When treatments are a success!!!, we will update this page with GOOD NEWS and return donatations that are not required.

In the past, we have contributed $100's of dollars to homeless pets in need.  Organizations like Kitty Cat Connection have posted requests for donations and we have been very quick to respond.  Now, with momma in school, there are no extra dollars, at all.

Roman with daddy at PetSmart in happier times, he's such a cool cat!:

Stats about Roman:
Birthday:  September 27, 2013
Breed:  Chocolate Persian
Sister:  His sister, and littermate, is Annabelle:

Prior to adopting Annabelle and Roman, the Sherry's lost a precious boy named Victor.  This came as a complete shock when Victor (part of a pair of Silver Persians) suddenly had a stroke. No effort was spared to help Victor recover, yet sadly, he passed away in February.   The house was too quiet, the Sherry's not only lost their furry child, but the joy and laughter was hard to come by.    With hope in their hearts, they adopted a little kitten named Simon out of Foster Care through Kitty Cat Connection.  Simon was a love!  He naturally took his role as greeter when anyone would arrive.  Sadly, Simon's life was cut way too short as he started showing symptoms of FIP just 6 months after he was rescued.  With no cure, and nothing but suffering, the Sherry's did what was best for Simon and let him pass on.

After losing 2 very loved cats in such a short time, a huge step was taken to adopt two Chocolate persian siblings.  They came to the home at only 4 weeks old and instantly became the furry children to dote on.  It has truly been a joy to have our home filled with running and lazer chasing, mice catching, and dealing with new kitten behavior issues.  More than anything, the Sherry's don't want their precious pets to be in pain.

Through this campaign, we hope to expedite Roman's medical care.  Resources are available as time passes through and paychecks are earned, but this situation with Roman's eye needs to be expedited.

The funds raised through this Go Fund Me Campaign will go directly to Roman's Opthamologist Specialist and help give the Sherrys OPTIONS of surgery and treatment.  It would be a shame to have to make a decision based on finances rather than what is best for the animal.

Successful crowd funded efforts involve not only the donors, but the people who share the story and who share the donation page.  We know how difficult it is for families to make ends meet,  and in the past we have quickly donated to other animals who needed rescued and emergency vet treatments.

Please help Roman and Roman's parents as we work to save his vision and keep him free from infection and pain.  Corneal Ulcers are painful!  We'd like to have him out of harm's way sooner than later.

God Bless!  And thank you for your prayers and consideration!

We will be posting copies of the receipts... let me go find them!

Happy Father's Day!!! Roman decided to open his eye today! I'm not a vet, but I can tell the infection around the eye is getting better! We will continue to update on his progress! June 15, 2014

June 16th:  We have an apt on Wednesday at 8 a.m. at Keil Veternary Ophthalmology in Lenexa Kansas!  Here is their website if you are curious!  Maybe we will see a pretty horse while we are there?
