This is the last thing I would have wanted to be a part of, but as your friend, I am honored that you chose to use my words to send your message.
I met you in December of 2006, and you were quite a gregarious, buxom woman, with long tresses and a loud voice. You towered over me, took me by the arm and added me to your long list of friends. It was so easy to like you, not just for your quick smile, but also for your wit, the infectious laughter, interesting stories, and the occasional risqué mini skirts. You became my sister and friend.
I am thankful we never fought like sisters, though. You would have squished me easily, and I'm grateful for the friendship that did not have to go through fire. Yet, I remember some pretty rough patches we went through together. The one I treasure most, is giving our dear friend her last bath when she passed away. We got through that with what little humor we had left, and with tears overflowing in abundance. Another, is the day I prayed my hardest for you, feeling the Holy Spirit take control of us both, and flowing as much as the tears I shed.
Now here we are, years later, and a collective sigh seems to escape us all. I, for one, am greatly saddened by all that you have to endure, but I know in my heart how God keeps you strong. I am here for you, as all your friends are, ready to rush to your aid, willing to fight this battle with you, hope and pray that we come out victorious.
It will be a long and arduous fight, Mers. We're all in. With greater urgency this time, I humbly ask all...friends, acquaintances and co-workers, to be generous with your resources, money, time, and most of all, love and prayers...for Merci.

God has the answer to our "why" and "when." It is only by trusting Him with "how" that will reveal the answers to all our questions.

About Merci
Already known to many, Merci comes from a large family of achievers. Their smiles are as wide as hers on their Facebook pages, showing how much they loved life, family, and career. As the 6th of 8 children, she took the responsibility of supporting her siblings while their Dad worked overseas. His untimely death when Merci was only 23, left them with 3 half siblings whom Merci speaks of fondly as well. Even during a difficult time in her life, she still chose love over anger.
Her dad's passing was only the first of many heartbreaks. Her Mom had a Stroke 3 years later, and the need for 24-hour care, medicines and supplies fueled the fire for Merci to leave the Philippines, to earn more for her family.
Always placing her family's needs before her own, she's supported some of them through college as well. Every time she mentions her family, I can hear the love and pride in her voice, because of their accomplishments, their victories. A more recent heartbreak is her eldest sister's diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, and finding one more loved one so vulnerable, and needing total care.
Merci hardly speaks about her own pain and suffering, unless in a form of a joke, or witty remark. As a CVICU nurse from Baylor, she's saved many hearts in the last 8 years. Even after the brief scare we had last year after her surgery in June 2013, she manages to bring life to any gathering, armed with goodies for kid's games, and a load of stories to tell. We were grateful for the good news that all was in the clear. So to find out again in February, that the cancer was back, I can only imagine how that must have felt.

After you spoke to the doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center, it suddenly became Metastatic, Moderately differentiated Endometrial Adenocarcinoma. Always trust the doctors to come up with big words to label a patient's condition, but it recently got abbreviated to Recurrent Endometrial Cancer with Liver Metastasis. Yeah, it's a looming cloud hovering over you. But we're here to help you find the sun behind that cloud. We promise.
Why We Fight with Merci
3.25.2014 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
First Day of Chemo today. Chemotherapy is scheduled every 3 weeks, with 6 treatments at a time. It will cost $5,000 each time. Traveling back and forth from Dallas is fine with the doctors, but must be in Houston at least 2 days before the next round of Chemo. So far no bad reactions, full head of hair intact. But the doctors promised considerable hair loss by the second round of Chemo.
