HEAL OUR MOTHERS, LOVE OUR CHILDREN AND HEAL THE FAMILY!
We are Magnolia Women's Recovery Programs, Inc., a non-profit, located in Oakland and Hayward, California. We help ensure children—newborn to seven years old, who have been separated from their addicted mothers and placed in the foster care system—reunify with their mothers in a drug-free, healthy, and stable environment.
If not helped, these are the children who get tossed around the foster care system resulting in emotional trauma. Many of these children’s first traumatic experience is the act of being pulled out of the arms of their mothers' and taken away to be placed with strangers. This act of separation is child abuse and emotional abuse, causing trauma that expresses itself into anger and hatred. If not treated in early childhood years the results can lead to acts of violence in later years. Very simply, when we heal our mothers, and love our children, we heal the family.
Magnolia has a holistic approach to addressing the challenges of addiction and mental health issues. We provide the mother and children with a safe and healthy therapeutic environment including complete living care that includes day-to-day necessities, relapse prevention treatment programs, and mental health. In addition, medical needs are addressed, along with one-on-one therapy, group counseling, legal advocacy, case management, parenting skills, job readiness, household management, community outreach, and more. These mothers and their children depend on Magnolia for up to an entire year. During this year our complete focus is in service to the women and their children to successfully transition out of the horrific effects of substance abuse, mental illness, and unhealthy lifestyles.
Since opening in 2003, we have expanded our reach to two confidential residential facilities that house a total of 32 women and children. It takes approximately $3,000,000 per year to effectively run our programs. It also takes a committed and trained staff to help care for each baby, child, and mother.
Often the mothers come into our program with a feeling of hopelessness, but at Magnolia we show them that there is hope! Our motto is “Magnolia is the essence of dignity,” and we seek to reconnect addicted women to their individual essence of love, compassion, and beauty. Magnolia women learn to walk in dignity, restore their families and become contributing members of the community.
Over 350 women and families have crossed Magnolia’s threshold. Eighty percent of the women who enter our program have been separated from their child/children. Twenty percent enter our program pregnant, and to date, one hundred percent of those who were pregnant, gave birth to healthy babies. We are happy to say that seventy percent have graduated into stable housing, sobriety, employment and pursuing higher education.
Magnolia helps mothers overcome their substance abuse issues and stabilize their mental health which are both necessary for reunification with her child/children. Since opening our doors we have helped 100% of those women and families reunite and we are on a mission to serve more!
