UPDATE: As of April 2014, Kristene has been accepted for an outpatient program at TIRR Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation and Research Hospital in Houston, Texas. Kristene will receive therapy to help her regain mobility on the left side of her body. She suffers paralysis after being shot in the head two years ago. Miraculously, Kristene survived this horrific crime—which may have been a hate crime—but she continues her fight to live a normal life. One of her goals is to be able to hold a cup or pick things up with her left hand.
Her family must pay out-of-pocket for all medical expenses insurance will not cover, including the more aggressive therapies that she needs to regain her independence. As an outpatient, Kristene will have to travel for over three hours on Sundays to Houston, where she’ll need housing Monday through Wednesday before making the return trip. Her family will acquire lodging, gas, food, and related expenses in addition to her mounting medical bills. Your donation to Kristene’s medical fund is profoundly appreciated.
