Help for Riley

Meet Riley. She is a 7 year old border collie and an awesome pup! Her momma, Alex Naeve, is a good friend of mine, and herself is an awesome person. Last July, Alex adopted Riley from a family through NorCal Border Collie rescue. Within days, Riley had won over many hearts: Alex, her boyfriend Corey, family, co-workers, students, and friends. Riley has been an incredible source of support, humor, and comfort for many since she joined Alex's family.

On Saturday, July 11, 2015, though, Alex received a phone call from San Mateo Animal Control, telling her that Riley had fallen three (3) stories from their apartment window, and was being transported to the North Peninsula Emergency Veterinary Clinic. X-Rays showed that Riley had shattered her femur, and had a second fracture in the carpal (wrist) joint of one of her front legs. If even possible, both surgeries would be complicated and expensive, and require extensive rehabilitation. After reviewing the x-rays and lab work, surgeon Dr. Dean Filipowicz determined that Riley was indeed a candidate for surgery.

On Monday 7/13 and Tuesday 7/14, Riley underwent two separate orthopedic surgeries to repair her femur and carpal (wrist) joint, utilizing plates, rods, screws, grafting and fusion to support the broken bones. Alex is ecstatic to report that Riley is now beginning to travel the long road to recovery.

I know all too well the burden of an unexpected emergency with a pet. You're already worried enough about their well being, but then the financial burden takes effect and it can feel like the walls are closing in. Alex is an awesome person, who does a lot for everyone she knows, and doesn't need to have this worry as well. Riley's medical bills have been covered by Alex and her very generous family; however, any little bit from you will help her be able to concentrated solely on Riley's care. Between the emergency veterinary clinic and intensive surgery and hospitalization, the total for Riley's care thus far is over $12,000, not including aftercare and follow up veterinary care.

Alex has been touched beyond words at all the concern, prayers and support, as well as the generous offers of financial assistance for Riley. She wants to reassure everyone that contributes that every penny donated will go towards Riley's care and recovery.
