Children with Disabilities in Nicaragua

Donation protected
This past spring, I traveled to Guatemala as part of a study abroad class at Columbus State Community College.  Thanks to donations from many of my friends and family through gofundme, the trip was an amazing educational opportunity and a cultural experience that I will never forget!

This year, while earning my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Cultural Anthropology at Otterbein University,  I have the opportunity for a spring break Service Learning trip with a small group of fellow students to travel to Nicaragua!  In order to support this exciting opportunity, I am once again seeking donations to support our efforts.  Not only will these funds go to support the expense of the trip, but to provide FOOD, CLOTHING, SHOES, and GIFTS for many of the families that we will encounter during our travels.

Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.  As a result, many children and families live in extreme poverty.  Bradley's House of Hope is a refuge in the midst of this incredible poverty.  As a father of a 15 year old boy with multiple disabilities, Rev. Jim Wilson discovered a grass hut that was being used as a therapy center for children with special needs while on a mission trip to Nicaragua.  He returned home to Troy, Ohio, and with the help of 400 families from more than 20 different states, his vision to construct a facility that would be equipped to offer therapy to handicapped children would be realized, and the grass hut was replaced with a 3600 square foot facility, including a horse stable to be used for equine therapy!

Throughout the Service Learning trip, Otterbein students will assist the efforts at Bradley's House of Hope, as well as Project Chacocente which is a program that helps to relocate families who are living in a dump to a village with health and educational resources,  as well as the VERBO orphanage, the Santa Rosa school, as well as the OB/GYN wing and the Oncology wing at a Women's Hospital.

As a father and stepfather to eight children, two of whom have autism, I am thrilled to be able to interact with the families and children who share similar needs, but with much more limited resources.  My goal is to one day be able to create an organization that provides for these amazing and special children  as well, and I believe that this trip will provide lots of momentum toward that goal.  Your donation will be an investment into the futures of these wonderful children.

Thank you!
