Thank you all again, ironic, she wanted to be cancer free....and SHE WAS!
Thank you for all that have been there and support Sherry's cause. Sherry past away last night, peacefully in her sleep. Complications from the transplant and that of fluid build up in lungs were too much for her frail body. Memorial service for Sherry will be held on Burkes Beach Sat. 03/22/2014
Pray, pray please pray, Sherry is not doing good at all. Blood work,O2 & lungs are very bad. I have notified the girls. Thank you all for the support & again please pray for her to get by. Sherry is amiracle a wonderful person, so,so,spiritual!
Sherry went outside for the first time since Sept 5th, she loved it! She was able to see, breath, feel, smell, and the touch of the warmth of the Sun. She was able for a short while experience that of Life, which is all in it's glory, waiting for her to return to it! Prayers needed to make this Happen!
PS.....Repeat performance for her today!
Sherry is back on 5West, now she is finding difficulties with O2 levels. During the night and at times during the day it plunges to 85%, trying to maintain 95% and above. The lower levels will let CO2 buildup, which would create problems with comprehension and breathing would worsen. Also, she receives dialysis M,W, and Fri at least, which lowers the BP. All the prayers in the world are needed, even more than ever.
Still in ICU at MUSC, Sherry has finally off the IV meds. She has an acceptable BP to deal with Dialysis. The problem now is her Pneumonia, O2 levels. Need to be 95%>, dip to 80's,good days & bad. Sherry has not any stamina in reserve to cope with low O2 levels. Just sitting is huge energy consumption. She feels, she is never getting out!
I wish there was a way to shout out to the world, for the need for prayer on her behalf.
Still in ICU, Sherry has to get off the Blood Pressure meds to get out and go to floor. She is becoming more depressed and weak. She really needs her and my prayers answered. Dialysis really takes it's toll and she had it each day this week! Please spread the need for prayer! Thank you all, Tom
Topic again, Pneumonia in left lung put Sherry on NPO due to cough. Now using BiPap mask at night so stuck in ICU. Doing dialysis last two days, took her off continous(CRRT) Wednesday. Trying to get back to floor and start on some PT and Rehab again.
The kidney team differs from the BMT docs in the agreement if Sherry has pneumonia or not. The fact is the left lung looks cloudy. Sherry is on anti-biotics and still on the CRRT for dialysis. Still stuck in ICU, she really could use a break!
Sherry is still in MUSC in ICU, doing better but it is such a fine line with the fluids that are administered. The various IVs add to the gain which is then regulated by Dialysis. Still on this vicious merry go round. Sherry still needs prayer, and to add to this Medicare is questioning the validity of the past medical days stay!
Sherry was finally out of MUSC and at Rehab on 1/12/14. Short lived, she is in ICU at MUSC with her lungs filled with fluid, lowBP,still on dialysis and can not walk. Sherry got thru this bout in ICU before, praying it is not what the Drs think, of 2 steps forward and 3 back. All prayers are still needed, more then ever. Thank you, Tom
Sherry is still getting dialysis, when receiving blood products they effect her heart and fluids build up in lungs. Working with PT still can't walk nor is bladder releasing. Doing baby steps along the way, and hoping the Drs can tweak all facets for better results. Sherry still needs all the prayers she can get.
Pulled the ventilator tube, still possible tube feeds over nite. Swallow test done, showed some aspiration, modified diet. A weak heart seems to be the cause of the breathing issues. Still remains on dialysis, and not walking. Impossible to even try to walk, being attached to machine 24hrs aday! Keep praying for the day, Sherry walks out of here!
Sherry is still in ICU and is on the ventilator, trying to find out reason for this vicious cycle. A bronchostomy was done to see if lung infections along with blood and urine cultures. Her heart has weakened and also causes the fluid in the lungs. Again, an urgent need for extensive prayers, thank you, Tom
Sherry is ICU, chest tube was by accident pulled out. She landed in ICU on Monday evening, and today was put on the BiPap and now is ventilated. CO2 levels were climbing again and still struggling with infections. More prayers then ever are needed!
Thank you, Tom
Sherry is struggling hard with staying out of ICU again. Pulmonary doing a cavity drain, to release fluid around the lungs, CT showed worsening view of lungs, shallow breathing. Sherry needs even more prayers then before! Tom
It has been up and down these past days. Day 94 & 95 were & are horrid, low BP,infections, high temps and total confusion & dilirious. This all came on suddenly, Docs want her in ICU on vent again, that is no way happening. Sherry's long plight and fight continues, trying to keep her spirit up, have her look deep in her faith. Please, keep her in all your prayers. Thank you, Tom
Well, all the scheduling goes south again. Dialysis comes early, rest of the day will be sleep, a fight for meals. PT,which Sherry desperately needs, will be cancelled. Seems this merry-go-round is nurtured at this facility of MUSC. Please, keep praying for the care-givers to be focused on the complete, & ultimate goal. Thank you, Tom
On this Thanksgiving Day, Sherry & I both give great thanks to the two donors of the cords. Without these, sharing this day w/Sherry would not have been possible. Thank you, seems so punitive a response for such a special gift of rebirth! To all, hoping you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Tom & Sherry
Great start to any day, no lab draws. Sherry's immune system is now one of the Cords and her counts are different than her immune. This is the first time in 3 years that her bone marrow has made red cells and Hemoglobin. It is the Lord's day, and another prayer is answered. Keep sending those prayers, he is always listening for what we ask for! Thank you, Tom
OUT of ICU! Sherry has started to work at standing with assistance. She is back on the floor, all other medical conditions remain, numerous more baby steps to come. Keep all prayers coming, along road to recovery. Thank you all, Tom
Sherry has made great strides in the past three days.
Thursday, 1st day in over 3 wks for talking.
Friday, 1st day to eat in 4wks,sat in chair
Saturday, 3small meals, sat in chair.
Sunday, talking, sitting, and tried feeding herself, somewhat. The feeding tube was removed! Another battle in her war was won. Sherry is a warrior, and her faith will make her the victor, the prayers are being answered. Thank you to all, Tom
Sherry is still waiting for kidneys to respond to dialysis. A Pusse-Muir, speaking cap has been fitted
and can hear Sherry speak, first time in over 3weeks. Sherry sat in chair and stood with assistance, also for first time in a month! God is good, his will be done! Tom
Sherry has had very busy days, multiple CT's breathing tests, infection, and PT evaluations. Verified that donor cells have taken over the immune system, and no sign of NHL, God be praised! Still along road for recovery, keep those prayers coming! Tom
Sherry had a very good day, still waiting for kidney and liver function, but her BP was great w/o pressure meds. First time in two years that has happened, another power of prayer! Keep them spreading and coming on strong, prayer is the power! Thank you, Tom
Sherry seems to accept the Trach, breathing better.
Watching and waiting for the next break-through. Another change of Doctors, pray they are on the same page as last group. Sherry is such a warrior of faith, finding such will and determination. That is a miracle in itself. Keep those prayers coming, Tom
So much going on. Sherry went from breathing mask, venting, to Trach in the past days. She could not sustain the oxygen levels on her own. She is still in ICU,& on Dialysis, waiting for the next miracle to take place. Sherry is remaining positive & strong in her faith, she is a warrior as you know. Thank you for the prayers, Tom
Sherry had a breathing test the past three days, still not quite ready to be on her own. Will be receiving blood products again, and still has fluid in her right lung. She is a warrior, indeed. Thank you for the prayers, Tom
Sherry's white cells continue to improve, up to 6.73, which is the normal range! Liver toxicity is coming down also! Trying breathing exercizes, to help getting Sherry off the ventilation. Keep the prayers coming, thank you, Tom
Sherry's white cells are 6.05, immune system coming back & liver function improving. All bigger than small baby steps! The prayers are working! She is still in ICU, Dialysis, breathing & feeding tube remain, please keep those prayers coming. Thank you, Tom
Sherry had a rough several days. She had internal bleeding and it has slowed with the additional Platelets that they have adminishtered. Sherry's immune system seems to be on the brink of being established. Now the test will done to determined which stem cells have grafted. She still has along way to go for full recovery, it has always been in God's hands. Please, continue to pray for Sherry, thank you, Tom
Sherry is still in ICU on ventilation battling whats seems to appear to be Bronchial Pneumonia. She now needs fluid for her's has seeped out of the veins into the stomach cavity. Sherry's immune system is coming back, although slowly. Keep her in your prayers, Tom
Sherry has gone from the Bipap to vented again. Her breathing went fast in 10 mins from 99%-83%
Sherry is now figting an Aspiration Pneumonia in her right lung. Please she eeds so much pray and support, thankyou Tom
Sherry is onthe Bipap for breathing again. I demanded a group meeting with all medical staff involved, ro get a the same page. Every time thereis a step forward, they administer meds and fluids too fast and causes fluid in lungs. Only been 13 days in ICU, one would think they would have acknowledge this, Pray for the Doctors also, that they may see clearly for Sherry's success. Thank you Tom
Sherry, has a set-back w/her breathing, on mask and lower oxygen level. Dr's need to get on same page, night time is notorious for fluid overload. Still in ICU, other counts, what is to go up are and those bad to go down. Keep praying for Sherry, thank you,Tom
Sherry's counts are very slowly moving up. Although the kidneys are still not functioning. A feeding tube has been placed, and she is still in ICU. She seems quite confused, but working on that issue.
Please keep Sherry in your prayers, she needs more miracles to happen. Thank you all, Tom
Sherry did excellant with physical therapy, worked arms, legs, moved fingers and toes. Considering how long in ICU, it showed great. Removal of the ventilation went smooth, doing good. Still a long way to go with the function of the kidneys. Please keep the prayers coming, Tom
Sherry is still in ICU, her kidneys are still not functioning, the blood infection also. Today is going to be better, her breathing tube is coming out for a trial. Pray she does well. Also, the EEG showed no signs of seizures. Baby steps, God is answering, Thank you for the support and prayers, Tom
Sherry is still in ICU, now dealing w/kidney function and a rare blood infection from the impaired immune system. Bactrim will be used for this, only this also lowers the immune system even more. Sherry has started also seizures, not known as to the reason, MRI in near future, risk involved w/various IVs that are attached to her. Sherry needs something positive in her near future, please pray as you never prayed before, thank you all for being there,Tom
Sherry is still in MUSC in ICU, dealing with her lungs and blood pressure. She has been taken off the Bipap and now is on ventilation(tube for oxygen and feeding)she is trying her hardet in this fight. Please all prayers needed(I'm typing w/gloves) Sherry is in neutropenic condition.(low immune system)
Sherry had Platelets during the early AM, they did not hold, she needed additional products. She is still on the Bipap and is in ICU. We have been told of the likelihood of her on a ventalator to try to control the fluid in the lungs. Praying for a larger miracle, that her kidneys and liver improve their functions. All prayers are the utmost importance for her continuing in this fight ! Thank you, Tom
The past days for Sherry have been hard, she is struggling from the effects of fluid retention. She has been in the ICU for the past days, due to several occurances of A-Fib from her Congestive Heart. Her counts are improving, although at nite they have a BiPap( for breathing) and diaretic IV for fluid loss.
It has been horrific, but she will pull through with prayer and her will power, she is a Warrior and she is well loved by all. Thank you for your prayers and generousity, Tom
Sherry had to receive Platelets and blood today. The counts of her kidneys are great, not the same for the liver counts. The doctors do not seem that stressed over this fact, so Sherry is fighting along. She was hampered slightly with an evening fever of 100.5, has been determined that it is not a blood infection, a small miracle again. Keep Sherry in your prayers, they work! Thank you, Tom
Sherry's Sunday was a vast improvement over yesterday, with the fight with her congestive heart failure. Sherry had to much IV fluid on Saturday and it came crashing down. It takes a day or to recover from the drastic outcome. Sherry is now constantly on oxygen, hopes are that when the retained excess fluids are gone the need for the oxygen will be also. All prayers are welcome, Tom
The past few days have been involved with the up and down effects of the blood counts. Dealing with the loss of appetite, heart rate increases, blood platelet loss, depletion of oxygen levels. Sherry is dealing with this all, one day at a time. Sherry's day starts at 2:45 am and concludes at 11:00 pm, finding time for naps in between. Please, keep the prayers coming, she is on a long road for recovery. Thank you, Tom
Sherry's kidney functions came back up, also there is some improvement in the liver values also. It is one day at a time. Yesterday was busy with a barrage of blood products. Today, Sherry's Magnesium is very low, so receiving 4 hours of IVs. Please, keep the prayers coming and share her story. Tom
Sherry has for now gotten past the fevers and shakes. She now has a problem with the levels of her liver and an infection. Have been told the immune counts are coming back for an addition month. So here we will be in MUSC. Please, keep the prayers for Sherry coming. Tom
Sherry has been getting fevers and breathing problems the past days. Has been on oxygen and anti-biotics, and less IV fluids to control the Congestive heart failure conditions. Keep Sherry in your prayers. Tom
Sherry's Cord Blood Transplant went finally as planned Thursday. Some complications with the amount of IV fluids, effected her heart and breathing. Corrected the problem in 5hr struggle, came on in 5 min. Rested, Friday and received anti-rejection meds. Fatigue is already setting in along with loss of appetite. Keep praying for her. God Bless and thank you. Tom
Sherry had a full body radiation in prep for the Cord Blood Transplant tomorrow. Her day started at 3am with all types of IV's and concluded with the FBR. Day zero tomorrow, keep her in your prayers, the journey has just begun. Tom
Still waiting for the results of the cultures, hope it is not an infection but the side-effects of the Chemo regime.Sherry is doing better, although getting tried more easily, All considering, she is doing fine, she is amazing. Keep praying for her, thank you all, Tom
Saturday, Chemo was administered and Sherry's counts were starting to drop as was expected. Evening hours brought fights with fever spikes of 102.2, that went into the AM of Sunday. Multiple tests done to locate the culprit, possible Chemo effects, infection, results are pending. Keep Sherry in your prayers, thank you and God Bless, Tom
Thursday 9/5/2013 was a long day. Started at 5:00 am, with Platelets at clinic, Bone Marrow Biopsy, and Tri-cath at Ashley Towers. Finally in room at 6:30PM. CT scan was then done at 7:45 PM. Today the chemo started with tests at 4:00 am, and chemo running from 10:00am on. Please keep Sherry in your prayers. Tom
Trying to get everything inline for the month's stay at MUSC, Charleston,SC. Thursday will be a long and hard day for Sherry, keep those prayers coming.
The long process of the Transplant is here after all the delay and stress, which is still with us. Tom
Sherry and I are now waiting for the start of the Cord Blood transplant. This is finally happening on Thursday the 5th, after all the delays with various protocols. Thank you for all the donations and the prayers. Tom
Sherry has clinic tomorrow, she seems tired, understandable with this roller coaster ride, on again, off again. Some get promoted to the height of their incompetency, lack of communication between members of Transplant team. Now scheduled to begin 9/5/2013. Please, keep Sherry in your prayers. Thank you, Tom
Sherry is receiving platelets today, dropped to 23kcumm, hemo was at 9.4, she will be receiving platelets on Thursday before the trnsplant; just received word that at 1:26 pm it has been placed on hold again! The cords of which are 4 out 6 and a 5 out of 6 are not even ordered and not at MUSC.
Sherry received the results of the Pulmonary test, and it showed not any infection. She needed platelets and blood products, bounced to 48K and 8.6 for hemo. Not any antibiotics were prescribed. The prayers are indeed working, keep them coming, thank you, Tom
Sherry received good news and bad news from the CT scan today. There are not any nodes to be seen,on or in the liver or spleen, great! The prayers are indeed working. Sherry does though have pneumonia, we will be meeting with a specialist tomorrow and her daily clinic. Please, keep Sherry in your prayers, Tom
Sherry's platelets dropped as usual to 14K. She received platelets and bounced to 48K, great for her. She had a PET scan, was an all day venue 9-5:00. As of now the Cord Blood transplant has been pushed back to the 29th due to Medical coverage protocols! Please, keep Sherry in your prayers. Tom
Sherry is receiving both platelets and blood, they were at 28K and 7.6 hemo. Due to BC/BS protocol, we may have to push back the cord blood transplant a week, OPM has not assigned a number to my retirement. Sherry needs to be on Medicare as the primary for the transplant to proceed. Keep those prayers coming, Tom
Sherry's platelet count was at a low of 18K, her first infusion was not so effective at a bounce of only 28K. A second bag of platelets was administered. Please, keep the prayers coming, Sherry needs them all so importantly now, due to the Cord Blood procedure. Thank you, Tom
Due to the fact of the Donor backing out, the only match out of 17,000,000 in bank. Sherry must use what is called a Cord Blood Transplant, the recovery time and the possibility of infections is greater, than with the Donor. Although, with everyone's prayers and please get Sherry on pray lists, she will come through this, once more. As in Corinthians 5:17 If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:old things are passed away;behold, all things are become new, amen, Please pray for Sherry, Tom
Sherry needed blood and 2 units of platelets. Her platelet count was down to 2K and the normal is that of 250K. She remains at Charleston and is resting the back and forth drive of 2hrs each way is just to much for her. Also, she is helping with packing for our move to Charleston,SC to be near MUSC. She still keeps pushing, and more times than not, too much so. Please, keep her in your prayers, Tom
Sherry is still up in Charleston, at MUSC. Her platelets were down to 2K, could have internal bleeding , but did not. She received again platelets, the normal range is that of 250,000 platelets. Her hemo was up to 9.2, great, but still below the normal, that of 10.2. Her platelets bounced to 48K. Keep Sherry in your prayers, thank you, Tom
Sherry's platelets dropped to 4k from that of 55k, she received platelets along with a blood transfusion on Friday. Her congestive heart failure was effected by having to much fluids, gained 3lbs in a day. She also received intravenous Lasik to reduced the fluid around her heart. She is suffering with a low grade fever from the lowered immune system. Keep her in your prayers, Tom
Sherry has received chemo and blood products during these past few days. Her platelets had dropped to 14k then bounced to 55k, after her infusion. She also received blood for her hemo was at 8.1 and MUSC protocol is set at 8.2 for the low. All prayers are welcome and needed, thank you. Tom
Heading to Charleston and MUSC again for Friday's day treatment of blood products, Dr. meetings, and the such. Sherry is bruising easier then norm, platelets are low. Hoping for a better bounce then the other day. Prayers are welcome, Tom
Sherry's platelets bounce a tad, to only 40K, that is due to the chemo regime. She did not receive the chemo this week due to the low counts, Docs thought another week rest was needed. Keep those prayers coming a spread the word please. Tom
Sherry remained at MUSC, I had to return to work. Her platelets were very low at 4Kcumm, could have internal bleeding, none to be noted. Chemo was cancelled due the low count. Hemo, was holding at 9.4, that was a small miracle again. Keep the prayers coming. Tom
Since the donor had a change of heart, the treatment will be that of an Allo-bone marrow(from your child) or that of a cord blood transplant(2 have been found). They each have their advantages and their disadvantages. It is like flipping a coin, please keep Sherry in your prayers, and thank you all again. Tom
Sherry's hemoglobin is staying at 8.4, she also needed platelets today. She received bad news, the donor has decided, not to go ahead with the stem cell
transplant, this was the only match in the donor bank! Please, Sherry needs a huge prayer list. Tom
Sherry needed Platelets today her hemo count was holding at 9.4, platelets were 15k bumped to 56k. Still not any word on donor to verify date of Stem cell or Bone marrow transplant. Please keep Sherry in your prayers. Tom
Sherry received Platelets and had her chemo. Found out that the mouth sores are a side-effect of the chemo regime, and have to watch so that it does not spread(when it happens) to her throat. Please keep praying for Sherry. Tom
Sherry had a delay with her Chemo, the treatment requests were lost in transition. The treatment was eventually found and with a 2hr delay, it was carried out. She is very tired, a long day, 8hrs in the clinic. Also received Platelets and blood. Keep those prayers coming and more prayer list, please. Tom
Received great news the chemo is working the Cat scan was great, and the tentative schedule for the Stem cell or bone marrow transplant is that of the 26th of July. All prayers are welcome and needed. Tom
Home again, home again Sherry is home again and resting. Very long day on Friday, with tests to try to determine the cause of pain. Having more trouble with meals, watching not to upset her system. Keep a prayer train going, please. Tom
Great news, MUSC docs found the donor, going through additional testing did the blood work. HLA typing 9 out of 10, and Sherry's DNA is rare with different anti-bodies, 10% chance God answered this prayer.
Update:(Donor backs out!)(Cord Blood Transplant 9/05/13)Sherry started this battle in 1992 when she had a tumor the size of a Pineapple in her abdomen cavity. She was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. She has through the years handled the various Chemo regimes, bravely, stead fast with the faith and hope that this next one, was the answer if not the cure. Though she has been inducted into various clinical trials in the past, the medical bills were immense. Sherry entered into an Autologous Transplant(own stem cells) in 2011,the Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma had spread to multiple areas and we recently learned that it was a salvage Transplant, no other recourse at the time. The NHL was not gone, 2012 brought the Radiation regime of Bexxar(clinical in locales)it shrunk but a lesion near the 5th rib was still active. Enter 2013, Sherry has completed radiation for that 5th rib area, it shrunk and is inactive, the MRI and CAT scan showed that the NHL mutated and is now on her liver. Sherry has started the Chemo to shrink the lesions on the liver to make way for an Allogenic SCT(donor cells)the HLA typing had found a match, they backed out July 2nd(now CORD BLOOD SCT). It has been such a hard and rocky road for her,but she has endured and really is due a break! Sherry is a real person type of person caring, thoughtful, understanding, loving, the best friend anyone could ask for. Sherry is my inspiration in life, she is the nucleus of our family, and she brings a light to whomever she meets in her life..that light needs more time to shine and shine brightly. The SCT recovery is lengthy, first; 30 days in Hospital,100 day daily clinic visits, eventually twice a week, then to once every two weeks. Minimum recovery period, is a year. The raised funds will help with the multiple prescriptions Sherry will be on. This will be a severe change in Sherry's life style. Remember, spread the word...please all the prayers in the world for Sherry's time of need is appreciated. Thank You, Sherry's devoted Husband
