Matt Glasgow, a Keene Family YMCA employee was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Keene on August 23rd; the Y has launched a fundraiser to help with his recovery and other needs.
Matt Glasgow, 24, of Keene has two skull fractures, facial fractures and a forehead laceration, and problems with his right shoulder. He is also on anti-seizure medication and needs to have additional CAT scans in the next six weeks. He was cycling home around 1 a.m. after his night shift as a housekeeper at the YMCA when he was hit by a car on Park Avenue.
Y CEO Hélène Mogridge said the Y is doing the fundraiser to support Glasgow because he needs the help with medical expenses and would especially benefit from having a car to travel safely to and from work.
“Matt was cycling home after work. He was saving up to purchase a car. He knows how dangerous it is to cycle at night. He was working really hard because he wanted to buy the car before winter. He was worried about missing work.”
Mogridge added that Matt is an exemplary employee and has been working at the Y since May 2018. “He never misses work and is incredibly reliable, responsible and hard-working. He is liked by everyone at the Y for his willingness to step in and help, no matter what he’s asked to do.
“We want to help Matt because we were really shocked and saddened by what happened. We’ve been in touch with his mother. Matt has had a difficult life but he was working hard to turn it around. It’s awful that this happened just when he was making such progress.”
Matt is on medical leave and does not have any accrued vacation or sick time. He has no income at this time. We hope to raise the money as quickly as possible to support his financial needs and provide him with a car to return to work.
