Help support my grandmother

Hello. Let me introduce my grandmother, Valeria Moreno. Valeria is the grandmother & mother of loving family members. She is living in Pangasinan, Philippines. My grandmother was living a happy and independent life until a couple of years ago and I always thought of her as a strong woman who did everything for her family and to her friends. When I was young, I grew up with my grandmother and she took care of me until I became an adult and was ready to go my own way.

Last year, February 2016, I heard terrible news, when they found a tumor in her head. Me and my family were devastated and I tried to take care of our beloved grandmother and mother in the best way we could. Because of her age (82 years old) , the operation to remove the tumor was no longer possible, because of the high risk involved in this. We always make sure that she has all the medicine necessary, as this keeps my grandmother alive. She is a strong woman, and we can see she is fighting really hard. However, as days passes she is becoming weaker and weaker until she couldn’t walk anymore, was not able to speak anymore, losing weight and forgetting things. We have to make sure that her blood sugar level and blood pressure are normal all the time, as this also may affect her condition. As her situation got worse the medical bills rose up and the added times in the hospital costed my family all our savings.

Currently, she is in the hospital right now, in our small town in Pangasinan. We always want the best for our grandmother and if there are by any chance and if only we could afford it, we could have sent her to one of the best hospitals in the Philippines, like Saint Luke's Medical center, Medical City or Makati Medical Center in Metro Manila.

In the Philippines it’s not common to have access to a health insurance. Due to the medicines and care that has been given already, the monthly costs for her health care has went up to atleast 500 euro a month (for medicines alone, excluding hospitalization). Due to the high cost, it is very difficult for the family to cope up with these costs. In the last years, the costs were so high that me and my family used up most of our savings.

Therefore I am hoping for your support, so that we can keep our grandmother more years with us and create more memories together. I would like to thank you for the help you can give us, even if it’s just a little bit that you can spare.
