Help Sola come to Baltimore

Help enrich this summer's Latvian Song and Dance Festival with the voices of Sōla!

One of Latvia's most celebrated choirs, Sōla is made up of students from the Latvian Academy of Culture and other universities. The group has been invited to participate in the 14th Latvian Song and Dance Festival of America, this summer in Baltimore from June 29 to July 3. Latvian song festivals first appeared in North America after WWII, when refugees sought to preserve and celebrate their heritage and cultural traditions. This summer, thousands of people from across the continent will gather in Baltimore to continue the festival tradition.

Sōla hopes to participate in three events at the festival: a sacred music concert; the headlining Festival Choir Concert, where it will perform alongside hundreds of singers from dozens of choirs; and its own solo concert. Held in the beautiful Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the solo concert is a way for Sōla to introduce both Latvian-Americans and the greater American public to Latvia’s longstanding choir tradition, as well as showcase the best of the country’s contemporary composers.

But the trip from Rīga to Baltimore isn't cheap, especially for music students, which is why we're asking you to help cover part of their travel expenses. As a thank you, all donors' names will be listed in Sōla's solo-concert playbill.

Founded in 1998 and led by artistic director Kaspars Ādamsons and conductors Jēkabs Jančevskis and Jānis Pēlmanis, Sōla's repertoire encompasses a range of time periods and styles. In addition to its regular season of solo concerts, Sōla shares and promotes Latvian choir music by partnering with other ensembles, performing in charitable benefit concerts, and taking part in festivals and competitions in Latvia and around the world.

We appreciate your support.

Ceļš no Rīgas līdz Baltimorai nav pa kabatai Kultūras akadēmijas studentam, tādēļ aicinam ikvienu apsvērt iespēju finansiāli palīdzēt, lai kopīgi pārvarētu šo šķērsli.
