Tessa's Cancer Treatment

For a very special person – an amazing mother and a great friend to many

Day before flying to Mexico

Just 8 weeks ago on the 1st of July 2014 our mother Tessa was diagnosed with a secondary metastatic liver cancer. And, only two weeks ago (8 August), the primary cancer was diagnosed as a rare stage 3 neuroendocrine cancer. This form of cancer is aggressive and she has dropped from 65 kilos to 49 kilos.

Treatment options for this rare form of cancer at an advanced stage within the UK are very limited. She is too weak for standard chemo.

However, we have found alternative non-toxic treatment abroad – a treatment that we also believe should available in the UK. There are only three countries offering such treatment, the USA, Germany and Mexico – with Mexico being the cheapest option.

Time is very much of the essence and hence we have had to move very quickly.

Mum flew to Mexico on Wednesday the 20th of August to start treatment immediately. We will share what we have learnt, as these new wave cures with zero, or low toxicity, should be available in the UK and would also be far more cost effective for the NHS. However right now as these treatments have not been sanctioned by the UK, so we have to pay privately. Mum has worked for 27 years in mental health, including the Cirencester clinic, Park House and as part of the community team at Weavers Croft in Gloucestershire. She enjoyed elderly care, which sadly until recently has been seen as a poor relation and felt her work was most needed here.

The treatment will cost about £1,000 a day and the treatment plan is expected to be 8-10 weeks – with a further 3 months of follow up on returning home. The total cost is expected to be around £60,000.

We will use Facebook as a mechanism to keep everyone updated and informed. Our immediate focus is to get mum started on the treatment and we will hopefully be able to soon share her success story and road to recovery.

All the family are striving to find these funds – however any help, however great or small, to help a lady that has helped so much, would be greatly appreciated.

Target £60,000

Mum, Mark, Miles and Clare have raised £22,000 so far in just a few frantic days …so £38,000 to go!
