Medical Fund for Charlie Zhang

Early September , Charlie Zhang, a junior and basketball player at Wootton High School, had an onset of cold. He suffered from symptoms like vomiting, slight fever etc, but nothing special. Just two days later, he was rushed to emergency room because his sudden paralysis. He was then diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a neurological condition in which the entire width of spinal cord is inflamed. Ever since the inflammation was under control, he has been transferred to the National Rehabilitation Hospital. He is receiving inpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation. Charlie is a fighter, he was able to sit up and stand with support last week. He got great support from his parents, Jingbo Li and Yumin Zhang. His father has been by his bedside since day one when he was admitted to the hospital. Charlie still has 3 weeks of his round one hospital stay for inpatient physical therapy. The recover and prognosis is still uncertain. It is going to be a long battle of recovery for sure.
This gofundme campaign is to offset a funding to support Charlie through his recovery and rehabilitation, to provide funding to the family to make the necessary modifications to their townhouse and van when he is able to transition home. Please help him get back on his feet by making a donation, however great or small. All the money raised will go directly to the Zhangs' family.

我们的山东小老乡张辰（Charlie Zhang），就读于伍顿高中(Wootton HS)，是校篮球队主力队员。 九月初，他感到有点感冒不适， 呕吐，低烧等，但并没有什么特殊症状 。两天后，他因突发性全身瘫痪被送往急诊室。 经检查， 医生诊断张辰得的是高位横贯性脊髓炎，这是一个由原因不明的感染导致脊髓和神经功能损伤，引发肢体瘫痪的神经系统疾病。现在张辰的炎症已经得到控制，他已被转移到华盛顿DC国家康复医院， 在那里，他正在接受物理治疗、职业治疗, 和其它康复治疗。只有十六岁的张辰，面对突如其来的疾病，却是一个勇敢的斗士，他上周已经先是可以倚着靠垫坐起来，周末又可以扶着支撑站起来了。尽管如此，张辰的康复和预后仍然是个未知数，他的第一轮住院物理治疗还有三周，但这将肯定是一场持久战。
张辰的康复需要长期的职业理疗，以达到生活自理，但美国的医疗保险计划大都限定了每年理疗的次数，超越了自付费用 。他们还面临另一个当务之急，就是需要准备张辰出院后回家居住，为此他们的联栋房需要进行必要的改建，以方便残疾人居住，和轮椅出入。 面包车也需要改动为残疾人用车，以提供他一两年内频繁的理疗出行。 这一切所需费用已远远超过一个夫妻双方都从事实验室工作的中产阶级的承受之力。
张辰一家是山东同乡会的成员，每次同乡会搞活动，义工团里都有他父母的身影，为活动添上自家厨房佳肴，贡献自家工具。如今他们有难，张辰的队友为了他的早日归队，自发地为他募捐，孩子们每人几元，几十元； 家长们几十，几百元，让人感到美国人的热情。我们海外华人，尤其是山东人更不能坐视不理 ，因我们的骨子里没有冷漠。经大华府山东同乡会理事会商议决定，面向山东老乡，海外华人，以及更广范围的为张辰募捐。请大家慷慨解囊，帮助张辰，每一元钱都是爱心支持。请把链接尽广泛地发到你的朋友圈，Facebook, Twitter。 筹集的资金将全部进入张辰父母的账户。 我们感谢所有的朋友和社会各界的支持。
