República Dominicana Service Trip!

This year, Gordon College will be traveling to Colegio Moriah in San Pedro de Macorís en La República Dominicana over our Spring Break to help in any way necessary. I've gone twice before and it has completely changed my life. It's led me to realize what I have been called to do con mi vida y it has sparked a fire in my heart for serving and helping others. Volunteering has allowed me to become more selfless and humble. I've developed a passion for the country, the people, the work, and, I must admit, the FOOD (limonsillos for the win!). It is an amazing place with an irresistible culture. The hearts of those you encounter are warm and impossible to forget. It's effortless to feel the love people have for one another. Though, as we know, nothing is perfect. People need help and people are angry about the way things are. It's our job--our mission--to help in any way we possibly can. We can't assume that someone else will. Not only are we helping others but we are also helping ourselves. We learn about ourselves and each other, we begin to better appreciate others, and we find ourselves valuing life, not things, much more. The Dominican Republic has honestly helped me shed the selfishness that I've had inside of me and has allowed me to see the beauty of the world and others that I never would've known otherwise.
