Help make Tuolumne County's Handmade Parade a glowing success!

Two years ago, two local artists were inspired by a parade they discovered in North Carolina  called The Handmade Parade. This, of course, was not your average, run-of-the-mill parade... it was a walking theatrical performance that encompassed and showcased the creative spirit of their community in a new way... with families, local schools, service groups, and businesses building giant, fantastical costumes, creatures, and contraptions together - and then parading their creations collectively through their town, to the awe and delight of spectators young and old!

These two artists dreamt of one day helping to bring this magic to Tuolumne County... And now is the time - but we need your help!

We want this first parade to be a glowing success...
But because this is the first event of its kind in our area, we do not yet have the budget that many of the larger, more well established parades have... And while we will encourage people to use recycled/recyclable materials whenever possible, many other tools and materials (such as new rolls of tape and gallon size jugs of glue for papier mache, for example) will still need to be purchased. Funds are also needed right away for things like proper advertising and promotional materials. And (maybe most importantly!) we are also fundraising for LIGHTS, so that our parade can GLOW AFTER DARK!

We want to be able to purchase enough solar and battery powered LED lights to be able to distribute them to the parade participants, and then, perhaps even use them again in subsequent parades... Lights like these that are good and bright don't come cheaply, so we are looking to raise funds to purchase enough lights to really GET OUR PARADE GLOWING! It will take a lot of them, but our hope is to be able to distribute lights to as many of the parade participants as we can, especially school groups!

The Handmade Parade is a parade for anyone that wants to celebrate creativity and diversity in a nonpolitical activity that fosters community involvement and creative expression.

On Saturday October 1st at dusk, Tuolumne County's Handmade Parade will march, dance, and roll down Main St. in Jamestown, CA.
We hope you will be a part of it!
