This is the story of Genesis Hernandez Arreguin.  Genesis was a typically developing little baby until the nightmare that occured on July 7, 2012.  Genesis had her 4 month check up and had her shots on July 6, 2012.  On July 7, 2012 at around 3 pm, Genesis's mother, Juana,  went to the store to get some diapers for Genesis.  Genesis stayed home with her father.  It was the first time Juana ever left Genesis alone.  While she was at the store, she called home to check on Genesis.  She heard her crying in the background and said she would be right home.  She got home within 20 minutes of the phone call.  She saw Genesis sleeping in the crib so she thought she was okay.  After about 40 minutes, it was time for Juana to feed Genesis.  She checked on her and noticed she was not waking up.  She was unresponsive.  Juana and the father rushed Genesis to the ER and within an hour, the doctors told them Genesis had bleeding in her brain.  She was flown to Albuquerque and soon after, it was confirmed that Genesis was the victim of shaken baby syndrome.  Her father was the perpetrator and within a week of the incident, he fled and the family has not heard from him since.

As a consequence of the abuse and trauma, Genesis suffered brain damage throughout 95% of her brain.  She has 60-80 seizures a day.  She has very little head support, no trunk control, cortical visual impairment, is non-verbal and completely dependent on her mother and other family members for activities of daily living.  She has a G-tube.  She is on 4 seizure medications.  She also takes medication to control acid reflux which is caused by the seizure medications.

Genesis is currently receiving vision therapy, speech/feeding therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy through Early Intervention.  She is going to need these services for the rest of her life.

Recently god made our wish come true and gave us hope by providing us with an amazing opportunity.  Genesis has been accepted in the CRIT, USA program in San Antonio, Texas (Children’s Rehabilitation Institute of Teleton, USA). This is the first rehabilitation center of this kind in the United States.  After an evaluation, Genesis and Juana will be able to go every three months for services until she is 18 years old.   Children who have been in this rehabilitation program in Mexico have made incredible progress.  We are blessed that Genesis will have this opportunity.

Thankfully, Genesis is growing everyday.  She is only 2 years old and is almost 31/2 feet tall and weighs 40 lbs.  As she continues to grow, it is getting harder to take her in and out of the vehicle, carry her, and help her with daily activities.  She is going to require more specialized equipment including a van with a lift and also other modifications to the home to help with mobility.  Juana has limited resources.

Your support will help Juana and Genesis with her rehabilitation and make it possible for Genesis to continue to make progress.  This fund will help with the frequent travel expenses to San Antonio as well as help with getting the specialized equipment and van.

We look forward to keeping you updated.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read the story of our beautiful princess.
