When Moody Bible Institute decided to close its Spokane campus, the faculty, students and local churches were devastated. Our students have been known as bearers of the light of Jesus in this Pacific Northwest town and beyond. The gaping hole that will be left in the community and various ministries as a result of closing our campus is difficult to swallow.
What has happened is nothing short of miraculous thus far: God moved our hearts to dream a great big dream: A new Christian university that will continue this legacy and grow it well into the future. While our name is "Great Northern University," we are looking forward to our official public announcement and launch of our new school in just a couple weeks. A link to our website will be added to this campaign once the site is up. We are excited about all that God has done in just a few weeks!
We are now a legal entity, have a great curriculum, faculty, great location and the blessings of the community, but without any way to pay for it! Our goal is to take the excellent model that was created here (students live in the community, not dorms, develop close relationships with each other and the faculty, and have a positive impact on the community around them), and grow it even larger. But to continue to provide this great education and training to our incredible students at low tuition rates, we need funds.
To be able to accept students we need to show the Washington Student Achievement Council one million dollars of operating expenses in a bank account. We started raising funds for this the second week of January and we now have about $720,000 to go (when I started this we needed $800,000! We hope to raise these funds as soon as possible since it takes 3-4 months for the application to the State to be approved so that our future students can enroll (we've received a green light for everything else!).
Just to be clear, all direct funds we receive for this project go through our sponsoring non-profit organization (Language and Culture Training International) directly to Great Northern, not Marc personally! Every gift will go directly to the start-up costs of the school and will help us keep the costs for our students very affordable.
