Self Publishing My Memoir

Donation protected
As most of my friends and family know, I've been slowly working on writing my memoir for a few years now. When I began, my only goal was to tell the story of how faulty breast implants changed my life and permanently altered my body. I'm glad that I've taken my time with this project because now I realize that the story I need to tell is much bigger than that.

Two years ago I returned to school with two goals. The first was to become a better writer, the second was to earn my way through either a Masters or PhD degree in order to teach at the university level. I am now only 9 credit hours away from earning my BA and beginning the application process to a graduate program. In other words, I am very busy writing senoir papers and essays which leaves me feeling torn because I don't find the time to work on my memoir. But now more than ever before I feel that the story wants to come out. My pregnant pause os over; its time to birth this lifes work!

A dear friend of mine just gave me the extra motivation I needed to continue this memoir project. She shared with me that whenever she is feeling lost or at her worst, she knows that she can always call me because I have the ability to help her (and others) heal. She encouraged me to get back out there, and told me she misses my presence. Hearing that meant the world to me! Writing about your life includes opening up old wounds, allowing your most vulnerable self to be exposed, and sharing some of your deepest secrets with the public. The ONLY reason anyone would want to do that is in service to others.

I want my memoir to be a beacon of hope, a self help guidebook, and a story that inspires women to overcome their most difficult challenges in order to live a happier healthier life. I want my journey to be one that teaches others that it is possible to change how we view our selves, how we treat our selves, how we love our selves. There have been many popular memoirs over the past few years - Eat Prey Love, Wild, The Glass Castle - that have inspired me and helped to form my style of writing. My sincerest wish is that one day soon mine can sit on the shelf with these beautiful works of art.

The reason for this Go-fund-me campaign is twofold. First, in taking suggestions from friends and strangers alike, I want to purchase a high quality digital voice recorder to record myself telling the stories and then have that transcribed so that I can go back and edit it. This will allow me to greatly speed up the writing process. Secondly,  after much research, I have decided to self publish. I have several friends who self published their works and once they gained a following then big publishers approached them and their books starting selling worldwide. Again, this will greatly speed up the process of bringing the story to the public. The beauty of Go-fund-me over Kickstater is that the money goes directly to me and I do not have to raise the entire amount - every little bit helps!

For each person who donates, no matter the amount, I promise to send you a signed copy of the memoir once it is published. I cannot in good conscience ask for this help without offering something in return.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Namaste,
Kristen
