My name is George Lee and I am an Oncology Massage Therapist. I have been working for 8yrs. at a hospital cancer center as the primary oncology massage therapist. HandsOnCancer is a project I created to provide properly educated and trained oncology massage for cancer survivors in need. Funding as always been a challenge for our patients due to oncology massage not being an insurance covered therapy.
The immediate need is for the facilities and equipment to provide for current survivors that were a part of an existing program that has been discontinued.
The longer term strategic need for bringing the organization to a non-profit status. The vison is that we will be able to provide oncology massage therapy to cancer patients without the burden of cost. However, to bring this to fruition, there are a lot of up front business cost for filings, development, etc.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to dedicate my time and effort in creating this project. I hope you will help me in this endeavor to postively affect survivors who are currently struggling with the considerable effects and side effects of cancer an it's treatments.
I have been condisidering such a project for years, so that my patients could start or continue to come to me for treatment without having to struggle with the financial overhead. Some come as often as they can afford and I know many would come more often if they had the money.
I've often said, "I wish I could give it all away for free." But, running an organization takes money. So, after a discussion with various associates, I've decided to pursue this dream. Actually, I realized that if I didn't do it, I would be doing a dis-service to the cancer commumnity. I needed to do it for the patients.
