Keep the Garden Angels gardening!

Donation protected
Thanks to the generosity of several funders, including the Robertson Trust, Castansa Trust, W.G. Edwards Foundation, Hugh Fraser Foundation, Shuh Trust and LTSB Henry Duncan Award, we have secured funding to cover the 2015-16 and 2016-17 project years.  We thank them wholeheartedly for their help to improve the lives of West Lothian's elderly community.

The amount set as our current goal is approximately the shortfall for 2017-18.  While we still hope to obtain this from applications to various funding organisations, every little bit surely helps and any contribution would go towards operating this project indefinitely.  As the population of West Lothian ages, more and more members of our community will need this service to keep their gardens from falling into ruin.

---------------------------

The Garden Angels Project was started by the Voluntary Sector Gateway  in 2013 to help the many elderly residents of West Lothian who can no longer maintain their gardens alone.  We have had an amazing two-year pilot, exceeding our targets and helping our participants achieve the many benefits of gardening.

Having a tidy, accessible garden reduces our clients' stress and frustration, while giving them a safe and appealing space to enjoy outdoor activity and be in closer contact to the community.  Our volunteers get lots of exercise, develop confidence and motivation,  and gain the 'feel good factor' of helping those in need.   Both benefit from sharing skills, knowledge and life experiences with each other, fostering a greater understanding between generations.

Our extensive waiting list shows that there is still an enormous need for this service throughout the region, so we would love to keep on gardening and bringing happiness and health to our elderly community.  Because the need is ongoing, we want to keep the project ongoing as well.

As a self-supporting project, we must secure all our own funds in order to operate.  We have been offered a generous amount of matching funds from the Robertson Trust to be applied to the project over three years, if we can raise the rest of our budget from other means.  We have also received a three-year grant from the Castansa Trust.

We will keep pursuing as many options as we can, and would greatly appreciate any contribution from those who think the project is worth continuing.

Please help keep our Angels in the Garden!
