GAA Furever Home

Greyhound Angels Adoption has a unique opportunity to finally have a true forever home of their own. Since its inception in 2004 we have rented different facilities to maintain an adoption and boarding kennel. We spent eight years in a 4200-square foot warehouse in Pennsauken, NJ and then spent the last three years on a 35-acre farm in Millville, NJ. It has been the rising cost of rent, repairs and maintenance that has been a struggle for the agency. It also limits the amount of senior, medically involved and broken leg greyhounds that we can welcome into Our Village.

In 2016 we were notified that Daisy Lundsten, a friend of an adopter, named Greyhound Angels Adoption as one of the beneficiaries in her will. Daisy’s friend adoption Laser, Arizona Laser, through GAA in October 2006. Laser went home and suddenly became very ill. We took him back to the kennel and worked with Dr. Heller, Maple Shade Animal Hospital, to make him healthy again. At his worst Laser was down to 60lbs. and was refusing to eat. He was diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder and started on medication. We cooked and hand fed him back to health. Daisy visited Laser with her friend and she was so appreciative of our work with him, that she named us in her will. Laser spent the rest of his life on a couch. He even helped his adopter get through cancer. He was an amazing greyhound.

Thanks to Daisy’s generosity, GAA received $20,000.00. When we were notified of the amount, we wanted to ensure that her generosity, Laser’s amazing legacy, would benefit any retired racing greyhound in the future. We could stay where we are, continue to pay high rent and be responsible for all repairs on the property, but we would go through the money within a matter of months. This was a wasteful idea and would not give the agency the longevity that The Village deserved. Lisa, Ira and Harry want to know that when they leave this world to join all the furfriends over The Bridge, that someone would be able to take over. That GAA would always have a home for those greyhounds that are hard to place, yes, they do exist, and those who need a place to heal before moving on to their couch.

We searched for the perfect place and we have found it. There is a 12-acre farm in Upper Deerfield, NJ that we would like to purchase. The 16-stall barn is only 7 years old. It has no leaks, has a drop ceiling so we can install insulation, hot and cold running water and electricity. The property is already fenced in and there is plenty of room for zoomies. We have spoken with the township and they have welcomed the opportunity to have Our Village there.  Millville Savings have committed to a $200,000 mortgage at 20% down.

We need your help. We have $20,000.00 towards our 20% down, but it is not enough. We need to raise approximately $30,000.00 to make this dream a reality. Our mortgage payment would be approximately $1,000.00 per month, almost 1/3 of our rent and as a 501c3 we are not required to pay property taxes. The farm has well water and septic, which alleviate a water or sewer bill.

This will change the agencies life and the life of so many retired racing greyhounds.

Please give what you can. Please share this with your friends and families. Together This Village Can Make A Difference For Future Retired Racing Greyhounds!!
