Atwood's X-Rays

Donation protected
This is Atwood (on the left); I adopted him and his brother Jackson from The House Rabbit Network a few months after my rabbit Clementine passed away.  They're both young, healthy rabbits who I'm so happy to have been able to provide a home for and who are both sweet and loving rabbits!  There are two rabbits in every picture because Atwood and his brother are so inseperabe: they do EVERYHTING together!

Last night, Atwood, being an extremely excitable eater, began to choke on his dinner...this is something he has done before, but only lasted a few seconds.  This time was different.  When I realised that this was not normal, and that he was struggling to breath, I tried to help...even doing the infant heimlich maneouver that is recommended for use on small pets.  Nothing seemed to help and as he continued to struggle and gasp to get air, I could see his pink ears were starting to get purplish and decided I had to go to the vet asasp.

A very helpful uber driver, who I'm so grateful for, got us there in record time; I was so scared Atwood woud suffocate before we could get a cab to us!

Unfortunately, the emergency clinic is expensive.  Far more expensive than a normal vet, but at 4am...there aren't really a lot of options.  I had some money saved as a buffer (the beginnings of an emergency fund in the making) but it quickly became clear that it wouldn't be enough.

The vets at the clinic were very helpful and attentive and got Atwood into an oxygen chamber which seemed to help him...although outside of the chamber he struggles to get enough air.  Where things are now is that Atwood still seems to have something lodged in his throat, and needs xrays to help determine where/what it is etc.  Even the low end quotes were pushing my burgeoning emergency fund to their limits...

It seems like the silliest of things to need to turn to GoFundMe for, but unfortunately, my rabbit, prone to eating too fast, which was in the past just a harmless quirk, ended up becoming life threatening.  He is stable and breathing and eating, but until they can get the obstruction out of his throat, he can't survive outside the oxygen chamber for very long.

I don't expect to raise all the money for this, but felt it best to set the goal at the higher end estimate I was given for his care.  (In addition I'm also taking on new art  commissions to raise funds) It never feels good to have to ask for money like this, but Atwood's care is my priority at the moment.  Even if it's just a couple dollars, every little bit will honestly help...and if you are unable to help with a donation, that's okay, a signal boost would also be very, very appreciated!

Thank you all so much, for whatever kind of help you can offer; I will keep you upated!
