Pianos For Mboro Academy of Music

Donation protected
Hello, I am hoping to raise money to buy pianos for the soon to be Murfreesboro Music Academy. In October of 2008, I started teaching piano in my apartment after finishing my degrees in Piano Performance and Theory/Composition. This was in the middle of the recession and many people thought I had lost my mind but I was following my heart.  This website will show you what it has become and I am so blessed not as much financially but spiritually and mentally.  www.LaynesPianostudio.com                                                       So this is very hard for me to ask for help but I was told over and over that there are people who care about music and love what I am doing. They also said I should share my life story that it is encouraging. I was the first in my family to go to college. My father was from a long line of coal miners in Grundy County, Tennessee. Sadly he was killed in a mining accident July 4th,1986. I recieved my hard working genes from him and yes I do work on holidays and don’t believe in vacations to the dismay of many of my friends. When my father was killed my mother was 6 MONTHS expecting my youngest brother at the time and was only 21 years old with an 8th grade education. Most of my life has been spent without a safety net financially and it has not been easy.

My life experiences gave me the fight and tough skin needed to overcome whatever life could throw at me. I was born with a rare genetic disorder called protein S type II and Prothrombin G mutation which called for expensive meds like the drug Lovenox to prevent death. Other drugs would not work so I got stuck with the most expensive on the market  I went without medical insurance for years so during college I suffered quite a bit and developed some nice DVT’s that ruined the veins in my legs. Sometimes I could get the meds from the company and sometimes I couldn’t and to receive the benefit I would end up having to live in poverty with no choice while I was in school. I feel uncomfortable sharing my story to say the least because I don’t want to appear weak through my struggles. This is not to play the health card but to be frank about why I cannot get the pianos myself at this point.  I know it is the right time to move on this dream for the Academy. I am a man of faith and I am taking a leap. During my time of prayer I have felt a peace that this is what I need to be doing.
The year 2008 feels like a long time ago and my studio has become very successful and I am thankful to the people of Rutherford county. I am working hard every day to help each one of my kids get the most out of their talent and help them make their dreams come true as musicians. I am now on another crazy adventure/dream to rent a larger office with a violinist and vocalist to create our first Murfreesboro Academy of Music. The cost of the rent is going to be tough. The renovations and remodeling will occur through the month of November and we have been blessed to get help with those expenses. I have been poor most of my life so I will be fine and I know how to survive. My trouble is that I don’t own a piano. I have used the pianos at church, the music stores I have worked in, and also taught at peoples’ homes.

My dream is to have two beautiful pianos in the studio for my students and one in their practice room. Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to offer my kids exactly what they deserve. If I could afford to get some great pianos I would make sure they were left to a school or church or other piano teachers that didn’t have the means to do this if something was to happen to me.  Over the years I have managed to help kids go to prestigious summer music programs sometimes funding with what I could give of my own money. I have helped three students go to college with some or all scholarships on piano skills. I train my students well and I pour my heart into everything we do from the yearly charity recitals for American Heart Association, Cancer association, and March of Dimes and of course our annual Piano recital. If you would like and feel led give to donate to the Murfreesboro Music Academy as I go to the next level, I pray you will be blessed as never before   even if it is just one dollar you can donate.                                           www.laynespianostudio.com
