Travis Fisher Lymphoma Fund

Donation protected
Established by the Salisbury Jaycees, this fund will assist Jaycees board member Travis Fisher and his family following his recent diagnosis with lymphoma.

A native of the Annapolis, MD, area, Travis moved to Maryland’s Eastern Shore to attend college at Salisbury State University (now Salisbury University) in the mid-1990s. Graduating from the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business in 2000, he and his business partner, Hunter Johnston, won the school’s prestigious Bernstein Achievement Award for Excellence for their business plan for the Internet company Netzotic. Today, they run Inacom Information Systems in Salisbury, MD.

Travis joined the Salisbury Jaycees in 2005 and quickly became a force in the chapter, becoming co-chair of one of the chapter’s largest (and oldest) projects, the Salisbury Christmas Parade. He powered through an unfortunate bout of Lyme Disease to run the project.

In 2007, he joined the board of directors and has been a constant presence ever since. He has chaired additional projects and served on many committees over the years, and is never shy about sharing his suggestions and options. Serving as chapter president in 2011, he remains one of the Salisbury Jaycees’ top recruiters and cheerleaders.

He was elected as the Maryland Jaycees' president in October and is expected to begin his year in that capacity on January 1, 2016.

Besides serving at the chapter and state levels, Travis has become more involved at the national level, serving on the 2014 Annual Meeting Committee and becoming a certified JCI USA trainer. In addition to his Jaycees contributions, he is a churchgoer (including distributing hundreds of self-correcting eyglasses on mission trips to Kenya and Peru), businessman, husband, father, barbecue smoker and curling team member. He lives in Easton, MD, with his wife, Joanne, a youth missioner and soccer coach; and their 2-year-old daughter, Reilly.

On Thursday, October 29, Travis visited an immediate care center near his home for some relief from what he thought was bronchitis. The persistent cough, fatigue, and difficulty breathing came on the heels of almost a month of sinus issues. Originally, it was thought he just had a bad cold. Then came some unexplained weight loss. A doctor at the center took an X-ray that showed a cloudy right lung, and Travis was told to go to the hospital for what appeared to be severe pneumonia.

Several days later, it was diagnosed as lymphoma. Chemotherapy was ordered to start immediately after diagnosis. This six-day treatment will repeated every three weeks through a course of six treatments, expected to continue through April 2016.
