Visit Daughter w/Huntington's

Donation protected

My name is Felicia Doane, and my daughter Krystal has Juvenile Huntington's Disease (JHD).  Huntington's is a genetically inherited disease that over the course of a few years robs the person of their ability to walk, talk, work, drive, care for themself, and eventually they lose the ability to even swallow because it affects their muscle tone.  It causes cognitive problems too.  It has been described as having the worst of Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's all rolled into one.  The onset of symptoms is typically around the age of 40, but JHD seems to be becoming more prominent. I have one daughter who has already been taken from me by JHD.
At some point in time people with HD/JHD usually need to be placed into long-term care because of the level of care that they need as they decline.  I tried placing Krystal in a couple of such places in Texas to be near us-her family, but the staff didn't want her there because of her various symptoms, and they weren't interested in learning how to care for her.  So I placed her in a specialty care facility in Minnesota that has an entire floor dedicated to the care of people with HD/JHD.  We have been unable to financially go see her as a family (3 of us) for almost 2 years now.  We are able to Skype with her, but I see the decline in her even using that tool, and my heart breaks.  We all miss each other terribly.
Your kindness in assisting our family with airfare, hotels and food to go visit with Krystal for 3 or 4 days will never be forgotten, and will be blessed.  Thank you.
