Ashley's New Lungs!

Donation protected

Ashley Carpenter will be 34 on August 13 and her new lungs will be 17 days old! Ashley is a mother to Saylor, their beautiful five year old daughter. Todd is a self-employed husband who has stood by Ashley's side watching her slowly deteriorate waiting on new lungs. By God's grace on July 28, Ashley received a double lung transplant!

Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by hardening of the skin and in a more severe form it affects the internal organs. This horrible disease affected Ashley's lungs to the point of being on oxygen for the last four years (she was diagnosed in 2011). Back in January, the doctors told her she had six months to live unless she received new lungs.... God is so faithful and always on time!

For some who may not know her journey, this is her third trip to Pittsburgh in hopes of a transplant. The first two were not a match and still she has waited patiently. The trips to hospitals, losing Ashley's income and the time away from work with all the hospital visits, not to mention hotel and travel expenses, has taken its toll on this young family.

Ashley will remain in the hospital for an additional three weeks and then must stay close to the hospital for an additional two months. The lengthy stay will be for a daily monitoring of her new lungs to make sure her body does not reject the lungs and for rehab. Someone has to stay with her, care for her and drive her to the hospital daily.

Unfortunately, their journey is just getting started on the road to recovery. Medical issues are always accompanied by financial burdens. Ashley has lived with this burden for over four years and as proud as she may be she understands she must have help.

Todd and Ashley feel overwhelmed by the love and support from their friends, family, business associates and total strangers! Please feel free to help support them throughout the process of her recovery. Her three month stay in Pittsburgh will be costly. The following year she will return every two months. On the second year, she will go to every three months. When she returns home in October this family will still require much needed help.

Please continue to keep them in your prayers and please specifically pray that Ashley's body will not reject her new lungs and that the medication that she will take will not harm her liver or kidneys.

Thank you for supporting this family and for your continued prayers.
