New Sponsor Alert! Many thanks to MS. ELIZABETH MCCARTHY for becoming a #DCNOLA Sponsor today! Sending love from NOLA to PA in gratitude.
Weekend 2 is in full force with 8 performances remaining!
I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of newcomers to The Shadowbox Theatre last night. They expressed how much they enjoyed our performances, the play itself, and how having no idea what to expect from a play in an intimate and unfamiliar venue made it all the more exciting. There's nothing like live theatre experienced in good company.
It's time to get yourself a drink, sit back, and brace yourself for a helluva story--a story of "all things left unsaid".
See you at The Shadowbox xo
Fact: We've raised $1,200 toward production costs & out-of-town sponsors make up about one-third of this total. You don't have to live in New Orleans to be a sponsor! For those who do live in the area, however, our 3rd performance is tonight, 7:30PM at The Shadowbox! Come on down! #FundDCNOLA #DyingCityNOLA #DCNOLA
Thank you to friends, members of the community, and press who joined us for opening last night. Words can't describe just how wonderful it felt to have the final, key element of this play - OUR AUDIENCE! There was a gentleman who stuck around after curtain call to purchase a ticket for TONIGHT'S performance, so I think it's safe to say last night was a success. 11 more performances to go! #DyingCityNOLA #DCNOLA
SEE YOUR NAME? Write Monica ASAP at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP to #DCNOLA! Reserve your two (2) free tickets to one of the following performances:

ARE WE THE 1ST? Despite descriptions being solely "late 20s" for all 3 characters in #DYINGCITY, we've yet to find #actorsofcolor research. If ethnicity was inconsequential to the playwright, why is it in casting? What are your thoughts?

WHO WE ARE
We are not a company or a collective but theatre artists who want to tell a great story. Our goals are to produce a profitable show, compensate our production team, satisfy all expenses, and provide an affordable theatrical experience for our community. Your sponsorship is essential to achieving these goals! A LITTLE HISTORY
This play had its regional premiere in New Orleans with Southern Rep in 2009, but it is our wish to expound on it further. As far as we have seen through production research, the role of Kelly has never been played by an actress of color, despite all three character descriptions are noted simply as "late twenties". The world is not wholly black or white and neither are its stories. This is what we are bringing to the forefront of this production.WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS
New Orleanians and those who love New Orleans across the globe possess a passion for community that sets them apart. When artists choose to create here, armed with the right resources and rooted in purpose, the energy brought forth in bringing people together in ways only live theatre can provide is never less than palpable. An idea is only as strong as those who band together to see it realized, and we want you on our team. Let's create a sensational piece of theatre together!

A young therapist, Kelly, whose husband Craig was killed while on military duty in Iraq, is confronted a year later by his identical twin Peter, who suspects that Craig's death was not accidental. Set in a spare downtown-Manhattan apartment after dark, scenes shift from the confrontation between Peter and Kelly, to Kelly's complicated farewell with her husband Craig. Shinn's creepy, sophisticated drama"”infused with references to 9/11 and the war in Iraq"”explores how contemporary politics and recent history have transformed the lives of these three characters.
"The finest new American play I've seen in a long while...Dying City
is a political play and also a psychodrama about what Arthur Miller called the politics of the soul. It's about public conscience and private grief, and real and symbolic catastrophes.""”The New York Observer
"Anyone who doubts that Mr. Shinn is among the most provocative and probing of American playwrights today need only experience the...sophisticated welding of form and content that is Dying City
.""”The New York Times
Christopher Shinn was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and lives in New York. His plays include Where Do We Live, Other People, What Didn't Happen, and On the Mountain, which have been widely produced in New York, across the United States, and in London. He is the recipient of an OBIE Award in Playwriting, as well as the Robert S. Chesney Award. He teaches playwriting at The New School for Drama. (Source: Amazon.com)
