Help Fran to be a Zentangle teacher

Donation protected
For nearly 30 years, Fran McColman selflessly gave of herself to care for her lovely daughter, Rhiannon who was born with polycistic kidney disease and later had a stroke (meaning she spent over 26 years confined to a wheelchair). Rhiannon passed away in August of this year after 7 months in hospice with renal failure and end-stage liver disease. Obviously, Fran is heartbroken with grief, but she also recognizes that her life is now filled with a new possibility — to explore her many talents as an artist, talents which she often (and selflessly) put on hold so she could be there for Rhiannon.

Over the last four years of Rhiannon's life, as she got progressively sicker and spent more and more time in hospital, Fran discovered a meditative artform called Zentangling. She fell in love with it and would often create zentangles while sitting with Rhiannon as she got blood transfusions or spent days in the hospital. Because of its emphasis on meditation and mindful drawing, Fran embraced Zentangling with enthusiasm and joy.

She often would speak about how much fun it would be to travel to Rhode Island for the training program to become a Certified Zentangling Trainer — but then would balk at the price. Like so many people who are so giving, Fran tends to resist spending money on herself. But the sparkle in her eyes and the joy with which she speaks about Zentangling shows that this is something that truly speaks to her soul.

I know Fran has many friends who love and support her, and I suspect many other people might find her story inspiring. Could you please help me to raise the funds to ensure that Fran gets the training to do the artwork she loves (and then possibly go on to share it with others)? The training tuition is $1985 and airfare from Atlanta to Providence is approximately $500. She will be able to register for the class sometime in the summer of 2015.

Fran is a loving and giving person, and it would mean the world to me to be able to give her a beautiful gift like this as a way of acknowledging not only her many years of sacrifice but also her innate creativity.

Now matter how much (or how little) you give, please help out! I think part of the magic of crowdfunding is not only being able to reach your goal, but to have the support of many family, friends, and others who are willing to pitch in. I want to be able to say to Fran not only "We've got your Zentangle training covered" but also "Look at all the people who are supporting your creative calling."

Thank you for considering this, and many blessings to you this holiday season!

With gratitude,

Carl (Fran's husband)

PS This is a surprise! Please, if you know Fran, keep it a secret for now. Thank you!!!
