Chuck & Charlie: Our Final Goodbye

Donation protected

On July 23rd my father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.  It was a large mass but the doctors still had hope that with chemo it would shrink and surgery could be possible. A G-tube and portacath were inserted. Test results showed that it had already spread to his liver. He remained in the hospital to regain his strength in preparation for palliative chemo. He was given a year, with treatment, to live. After he regained his strength and put on some weight he was sent home but his health quickly declined and he has been hospitalized ever since.  We recently learned that the cancer has spread to his brain. The doctors are now giving him days to weeks, possibly a month at best, to live. The time has come to bring him home for his final days. I've decided to take a Family Medical Leave from work to help care for my father as he transitions from this life to the next. This has put me in financial fear because I will have no income coming in. I do have some money that should sustain me for next months basic living expenses (rent, phone, car insurance, car note and some food) but anything beyond that, without working, I wont be able to cover. I have worked hard in my recovery to maintain these things and dont want to loose them now. I am taking the proper steps to lower my bills, my car payment, and am even selling my old pickup truck that my dad and I use but I'm afraid that might not be enough. I shared some of the concerns with friends and it was suggested that I set up 'gofundme' account. I didnt like the idea so I blew it off. Then, after speaking to a friend today, I decided to ask for help on his suggestion. He helped make me understand that asking for help is OK. This is something that is very hard to do but I dont know what else I can do. I want nothing more than to be at my fathers side, holding his hand as he passes to the next life. Again, this is only to cover nessesary expenses and monies not used for basic expenses will go toward extra help for my father in his last days and his final expenses to help relieve the burden from my mother. Thank you for your love and support, his is truly a humbling experience.
