Family Dinner Project @ Riley

Donation protected
The holidays are the worst possible time to be in the hospital with a seriously sick child. Yet, many families are faced with this reality every year.

That is where we come in. We try to help salvage what could turn out to be a bleak or nonexistent holiday for the families of the patients and the staff of Riley Hospital for Children. This event happens three times a year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. It is a feast worthy of any holiday table with food all over the place. On the menu there is ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, rice pilaf, greens, green beans, corn, rolls, cakes, pies, and desserts galore. At Easter we substitute turkey with fish.

Santa comes every Christmas to take pictures with the kids and hand out toys. And the Easter Bunny, not to be outdone, comes and does and Easter egg hunt at that dinner.

There is never a charge for any of this for any of the persons attending the dinner; this is why we need your help. The dinner has grown to beyond our capabilities. We serve on average 800 people per dinner. We are in the process of filing for a 501 (c) (3) so that we can get corporate sponsorships.

This dinner won the Red Shoe Award, Jefferson Award and the Mayor’s Community Service Award.

The Thanksgiving dinner will be on November 21 and Christmas will be December 19.
